O'Sullivans can help you to achieve your business goals by taking the stress out of managing your financial affairs. The work I do for you can be tailored to meet your own individual circumstances but can include preparation of annual accounts, monthly / quarterly management accounts, personal / company tax returns, VAT returns and basic payroll management. Having graduated from Portsmouth Univers

ity in 2005 with a First Class Honours Degree in Accountancy, I immediately started working for a well known regional firm of Chartered Accountants. I qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 2008, and have continued to work in practice since. In 2015, I decided to start my own firm with an emphasis on providing a friendly and reliable service to my clients. I have a broad range of experience dealing with sole traders, partnerships and limited companies from a variety of different industries and professions. I am always happy to arrange an initial free of charge, no obligation meeting to discuss your individual requirements, so please do get in touch to see exactly how I could help you.

Do you work in the construction industry?

Are you new to using subcontractors or are you a subcontractor yourself?

If so (and possibly even if not), we hope you'll find this basic guide to the topic useful!

As an accountant, I am regularly asked about the Construction Industry Scheme (CIS), how it operates and who is responsible for what! Specifically, I often find myself reiterating to my contractor clients the information they need to pass on to their new subcontractors in order to get things set up....

Alongside running O'Sullivans, I also act as Finance Director for my wife's PR agency, ADPR. Earlier this week, she asked if I could write a blog summarising the various financial support measures that have been introduced to date for businesses struggling because of the coronavirus, and I thought I would like to share it with all of you too.

I hope you find this useful and should you have any further questions at all, please do get in touch.

Today we are featuring another guest blog, this time by James O’Sullivan, ADPR’s Finance Director and Chartered Accountant with his own practice, O’Sullivan’s.🙌🏼

Lockdown leadership: A Round up of Covid-19 financial support measures for businesses!📲🗣

In case you missed it, I was asked to sit on an expert panel of local business owners last night where we all spoke briefly about the current Coronavirus pandemic, the effects it’s having and what we can all do to help get ourselves and our businesses through it in the best shape possible.

I hate watching myself on screen but I would highly recommend this to anyone right now - there really was some great practical advice from each of the panelists, so please do check it out from the link below.

The dedicated HMRC helpline for businesses and self-employed individuals who have difficulty with paying their tax due to COVID-19 promised at Budget 2020 is now in operation. The number of the helpline is 0800 0159 559.

The helpline can assist with setting up a time to pay arrangement, suspending debt collection proceedings, and cancelling late payment penalties.

If you are a business owner and are struggling to meet your tax liabilities as a result of the current COVID-19 situation, I would urge you to give HMRC a call on the above number to see how they can help.

Monday marked a very proud moment in my career as it has now been 10 years since I passed my final exams and qualified as a chartered accountant!

This is a significant milestone for any chartered accountant as it means I have now been invited by ICAEW to become a fellow of the Institute (rather than an associate) and can use the designation FCA after my name (rather than ACA), which is a globally recognised and well respected sign of my professional experience.

I also get a new certificate to hang on my wall! 😀

After yesterday's announcement in the Chancellor's Spring Budget that Class 4 National Insurance Contributions are set to rise from April 2018, we look at the impact this will have on small businesses. Should you wish to discuss this, or anything else covered in yesterday's Budget, please feel free to get in touch.

As Philip Hammond delivered his first Budget yesterday, the main headline being reported on today is the proposed increase to Class 4 National Insurance Contributions payable by the self employed. Under the current system, self employed individuals pay Class 4 NICs at a rate of 9% on their business…

Now all the festivities are over though, I'm afraid it is time to think about your tax returns (if you haven't already!). If you need to complete a return for the tax year ended 5th April 2016, don't forget it needs to be submitted to HMRC by 31st January 2017 to avoid receiving any late filing penalties.

If you or anyone you know needs some help with their tax return, then please do get in touch to see what we can do for you!
