Schools, please stop making parents feel uncomfortable for bringing an advocate to a meeting.
Walking into a room full of professionals to discuss your child can feel overwhelming. Especially when you’re exhausted, worried and have already spent months trying to get their needs understood.
An advocate can help a parent prepare, ask questions, explain their concerns and understand what has been agreed.
That support should be welcomed.
Parents should be able to say “I need someone with me” without being made to feel difficult.
We all want the same thing: a child whose needs are understood and met. Working together means making space for the support their parent needs too.
