Spotted in Chigborough this week, a roadside display of surplus building materials, plus a generous helping of cardboard from a food establishment and its leftover food.
Sadly, it’s not modern art.
It’s fly-tipping.
Cleared up by our team.
Paid for by local taxpayers.
Country lanes are not:
• Building skips
• Commercial recycling bins
• Fast-food disposal points
We’d prefer our rural lanes without the side order of litter.
If you’re a builder, waste disposal is part of the job.
If you’re a business, commercial waste must be disposed of properly.
If you’re paying someone to remove waste, check they’re licensed.
⚖️ The Reality of Fly-Tipping in Maldon District
Under enforcement by Maldon District Council:
• Fixed Penalty Notice: Up to £1,000
• Duty of Care Breach: £600 fixed penalty, or up to £5,000 if prosecuted
• Serious offences: Up to £50,000 fine or 12 months imprisonment (up to 5 years in Crown Court)
• Prosecution costs: Offenders may also be ordered to pay investigation and clean-up costs
Fly-tipping isn’t a shortcut. It’s a criminal offence.
✅ How to avoid a fine:
• Only use registered waste carriers
• Ask for a waste transfer note or receipt
• Use the council’s bulky waste collection service for large items
🌳Let’s keep our countryside green… not turned into a drive-through dumping ground.
