Spotted in Chigborough this week, a roadside display of surplus building materials, plus a generous helping of cardboard from a food establishment and its leftover food.

Sadly, it’s not modern art.
It’s fly-tipping.

Cleared up by our team.
Paid for by local taxpayers.

Country lanes are not:
• Building skips
• Commercial recycling bins
• Fast-food disposal points

We’d prefer our rural lanes without the side order of litter.

If you’re a builder, waste disposal is part of the job.
If you’re a business, commercial waste must be disposed of properly.
If you’re paying someone to remove waste, check they’re licensed.

⚖️ The Reality of Fly-Tipping in Maldon District
Under enforcement by Maldon District Council:
• Fixed Penalty Notice: Up to £1,000
• Duty of Care Breach: £600 fixed penalty, or up to £5,000 if prosecuted
• Serious offences: Up to £50,000 fine or 12 months imprisonment (up to 5 years in Crown Court)
• Prosecution costs: Offenders may also be ordered to pay investigation and clean-up costs
Fly-tipping isn’t a shortcut. It’s a criminal offence.

✅ How to avoid a fine:
• Only use registered waste carriers
• Ask for a waste transfer note or receipt
• Use the council’s bulky waste collection service for large items

🌳Let’s keep our countryside green… not turned into a drive-through dumping ground.
If anyone has information relating to this incident in Chigborough, please message the page or you can report fly-tipping in the Maldon area via their Council website or by calling 01621 854477.

‼️TRIGGER WARNING‼️

THIS POST SHOWS PHOTOGRAPHIC EVIDENCE OF BIRD REMAINS

This is not “litter”, this is irresponsible dumping.

Today our team cleared a fly-tip from a rural lane in Goldhanger, consisting of a significant quantity of bird remains, heads, wings and waste; consistent with the by-products of a shoot.

This was not an accident. This was a choice.

Whether the shoot was commercial or private, aside from being distressing to come across, leaving biological waste like this is unhygienic, unsafe and completely unacceptable. It puts our staff at risk, attracts scavengers, and creates a hazard for pets, widlife and the local community.

We take pride in keeping our local area clean and safe, but it is frustrating when avoidable mess like this is left for someone else to deal with.

A reminder that:
• shoot waste must be disposed of legally
• rural lanes are not waste sites
• cleaning up afterwards is part of the responsibility

We are proud of our team for dealing with jobs like this but they should never have to.

If anyone has information relating to this incident, please message us.

🍃Fly-tipping incident – Chigborough Road, Heybridge🍃

We have today collected a significant fly-tip from Chigborough Road. The waste appears to include unusual tiles, and we believe it may have originated from a CO postcode area.

If you recognise these tiles, or if you have recently paid a contractor to dispose of similar waste, please get in touch. Any information could help identify how this material came to be dumped.

Please contact us, quoting job reference 26/00120/CPFTR.

Thank you for your help in keeping our local area clean and safe.

We were delighted to be able to support the Farleigh Hospice charity Christmas tree collection again this year. 🎄

Farleigh Hospice is a registered charity that offers an invaluable service to the local community by supporting families in their time of need, including hospice care for people affected by life-limiting illnesses and bereavement across mid-Essex. 👨‍⚕️

Working in partnership with our waste collections contractor SUEZ UK, we have supported Farleigh Hospice with their Christmas tree collection service since 2017, providing crews to take locally donated trees for processing at B. G. Appleton Contracts Ltd who operate a local composting facility and they also process all of the garden waste that is collected with the Maldon District. 🚚👷

Both SUEZ UK and B. G. Appleton Contracts Ltd provide this service for Farleigh Hospice free of charge. 🆓

Dear Appleton Contracts

We are emailing you to thank you for doing such a great job (as usual) cleaning up the town centre after Maldon Town Council's annual Light Up Maldon Christmas switch on event on Thursday, 27th November evening.

Your efforts are much appreciated and noted.

We will you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

🚫 Don't dump it – do the right thing! ♻️

We’ve been made aware of a few instances of people leaving bags of clothing outside clothing banks in the District. Please remember – this is fly tipping, and you could be fined if caught. 😟

We don't want that to happen, so if a clothing bank is full, please don’t leave your items outside. Not only is it illegal, but your clothes could be damaged or taken, meaning they can’t be reused. 💔

✅ Instead:

📞 Use the contact details on the clothing bank to report it as being full.

🚗 Try another bank or come back later once it has been emptied.

🏪 Visit one of the many local charity shops that accept clothing.

🏡 Use our textile collection service – we’ll pick up from your door!

Let’s keep our district clean and make sure your donations help those who need them. 💚

Welcome to our page.
♻️It all began in 1963, when Bernard Gordon Appleton secured a contract to load grit lorries. From that modest start he bought his first tractor, and slowly the business grew. Bernard would go on to hedge cutting and litter-picking, always with one goal in mind: to keep Maldon District beautiful and cared for.
♻️Over the years, we’ve become more than just a local contractor. We recycle green waste into rich soil improver. We turn hardcore into crushed concrete. We collect fly-tips. We support Maldon District Council, local businesses, and residents, because this place is home.
♻️Sadly, Bernard passed away in May this year. The community misses him dearly. He left a big hole in our hearts but also left behind his legacy. A team of people, many of whom have been with him for over 25 years, carrying forward his work, his values, his dedication.
♻️We may be a small independent firm, but our roots run deep. We’re here to serve anyone who wants to do right by their environment and their community.
♻️From Bernard’s original vision to what we are today: striving for the full circle of recycling, a cleaner and greener Maldon, and honouring the memory of a man who always saw value where others might see waste.
