In June we delivered HR training to one of our client's (non-HR) managers. The Manager's role is often a busy and varied one, so the purpose of the training was to equip the managers with the skill, knowledge and confidence to lead their teams and deal with team challenges.

The areas we covered included
🔹The importance of the contract of employment, HR policies and following procedure.
🔹Managing holidays
🔹Managing sickness absence
🔹Managing performance (unsatisfactory and setting targets)
🔹We discussed some case studies and how to best deal with different situations. We also covered the consequences of getting things wrong.

Why is it important that Managers have this training?

🔷Often when businesses promote or recruit staff they do so due to the persons skill and expertise in their field. The person may not have been trained in how to be a manager - How to manage and lead a team of people.
🔷The behaviour and approach of the Manager is central to and vital when dealing with HR issues such as conflict, unsatisfactory performance or absence issues, but also in supporting the health, wellbeing and engagement of their team.
🔷It is important that Managers are skilled in how to address people management issues in the first instance and promptly, so a small ni**le does not escalate into a major problem.

As of the 6th April 2022, 2 changes were made to the fit note.

1. A new updated version of the fit note

2. The note will contain the name of the doctor authorising the form, however it will no longer require to be physically signed in ink by the Doctor.

The Government have now announced another change to the fit note.

With effect from 1st July 2022, more healthcare professionals will be able to certify and issue the fit note. This will include a medical practitioner, a registered nurse, occupational therapists, registered pharmacists and registered physiotherapists.

👑EXTRA BANK HOLIDAY NEXT MONTH👑

Next month we will receive an extra Bank Holiday on Friday 3rd June to commemorate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

In addition to this the May Day bank holiday will be moved to Thursday 2nd June, in effect creating a four-day weekend for the event.
