So a corner's chipped off the big mirror you've bought. Doesn't look like much, but it can be an expensive accident

Here's the difference between Supply Only and Supply & Install:

Supply Only:
You own the mirror the moment it's handed over. Damage during delivery to site? Your problem. Damage during handling on-site? Your problem. A corner gets taken off a £600 mirror - you're paying to replace the whole piece. On big mirrors, that's not small money.

Supply & Install:
The supplier owns it until it's safely installed on your wall. Damage in transit? They replace it. Damage during installation? They fix it. Your risk transfers once the job is finished.

Why does this matter?
Small mirrors = manageable risk either way.
Large mirrors = the financial exposure on Supply Only becomes significant. One corner chip can mean a complete replacement cost.

It's not just about convenience. It's about who bears the financial risk if something goes wrong.
When you're ordering a large custom mirror, ask: "If something gets damaged before installation, who replaces it? Do I pay, or do they?"

Understanding the answer helps you make an informed choice.

If you're comfortable with the risk, then absolutely Supply Only is your cheaper and better option. If you're more risk averse, then you need to seriously consider the uplift for Supply & Install.

What Should Happen When You Send a Custom Mirror Supplier Your Vision

You send them your merged image and measurements.

Now what?

Here's what a professional supplier should do on their end:

They take what you want and convert it into precise specifications:
- Exact sizing (width, height, proportions)
- Number of panels (if it's multi-panel)
- Edge finishes (bevelled, polished, standard)
- Backing options
- Frame style (if applicable)
- Installation method based on your wall

They create a CAD drawing. Your merged image is the vision. The CAD drawing is the blueprint.
Why? Because the merged image is beautiful but artistic. The CAD drawing is technical - it ensures:
- Perfect proportions
- Accurate sizing
- Zero installation surprises
- Exact cost (fixed quote, no surprises)

A good supplier sends you back a PDF showing:
1. Exact dimensions
2. How it'll look installed
3. A fixed-price quote based on those specifications

Now you can approve with 100% confidence.

When you're ordering custom, ask: "Will you send me a CAD drawing before we manufacture? Will I see dimensions and a fixed quote before I commit?"

The answer tells you a lot about how they work.

How Custom Ordering Actually Works (And Why Cooling-Off Periods Matter)

Most people hesitate before ordering custom mirrors or glass.
"What if I change my mind?"

Fair question. And here's what you should know about how responsible custom suppliers handle it.

A good custom supplier gives you breathing room at two critical points:

Before you pay anything (Days 1-2):
You get a measurement and design consultation. You see what you're ordering. Then you get 2 days to think about it. If you change your mind - no cost, no penalty, no questions.

After you approve and pay deposit (Days 3-5):
You've committed to manufacturing. But you get another 2 days to change your mind if you're not confident. If manufacturing hasn't started, you get your deposit back.

Why? Because custom work should feel safe, not trapped.

A supplier who locks you in immediately is betting on your indecision, not your confidence.

A supplier who gives you breathing room is betting on your certainty.

When you're ordering something bespoke, you should ask:

"What's your cancellation policy? When does it kick in? Am I locked in immediately, or do I have time to be sure?"

The answers tell you a lot about how they work.

"What You Need to Know Before Installing a Mirror"

Most mirror problems don't happen during installation. They happen because the wall wasn't assessed properly beforehand.

Here's what actually matters:
Know your wall type. Is it plasterboard, brick, tile? Each one needs different fixings.
Know your wall condition. Is it straight? Plumb? Are there bumps, uneven patches, or damage? These aren't problems - they're just information.

Know what's behind it. Where are the pipes? The electrics? The studs? Hit one, and you've got a bigger problem than a crooked mirror.

Once you know these things, everything else follows. You pick the right fixings. You plan around obstacles. You know exactly how to install something that'll stay secure.

Most people skip this step. They buy the mirror, grab a drill, and hope. Then they're surprised when it doesn't work.

Wall assessment isn't complicated. It's just necessary.

"Why Should I Pay for Professional Installation?"

Installing a mirror isn't just hanging it on the wall.

You need to find the studs. Check the wall is level (most aren't). Drill in the right place - first time, there's no second chance on drywall. Ensure the frame sits flush to an uneven surface. Get the weight distribution right so it doesn't slip.

You also need the right tools. Glass suckers for handling. Specialist drills. Spirit levels. Fixings for different wall types. That's hundreds of pounds in equipment if you're starting from zero.

Some people do this successfully. Many don't.

Here's what actually matters:

A professional installer has the tools, the experience, and the knowledge to measure the wall, identify problems before drilling, compensate for uneven surfaces, use the right fixings for your wall type, and ensure it's level and secure.

DIY can work if you have the tools, the skill, and the patience. Professional installation removes the variables - and you're not buying equipment you'll use once.

Choose based on what you're comfortable with - not based on price alone.

You can buy an expensive mirror online. £400, £500, £600.
But expensive isn't premium.

This mirror? It's shaped to fit this space. quarter-circle. Exact dimensions. Custom to the millimetre.
Try buying that from a marketplace. It doesn't exist. You'd have to buy a standard quadrant, and it wouldn't fit perfectly. Or you'd get lucky once and never find it again.

Premium isn't about the price tag. It's about the fit. It's about someone measuring your space, understanding what you need, and making something that only works in your room.

At GDS, that's what you're paying for. Not expensive. Premium.

We Don't Offer Warranties. Here's What We Do Instead.

Most warranties are designed to protect the company, not you.

"Covered under section 3.2, subsection B, except in cases of..."

It's legal protection dressed up as customer protection.

We do something different.

Here's Our Promise:
If we break it, we fix it. That's it.
No fine print. No clauses. No arguing about what's "covered."

If Something Goes Wrong After Installation:
You call us. We come look at it. If we made a mistake - measurement, installation, quality - we replace it or fix it. Our cost. No questions.

If It Breaks During Our Installation:
We replace it immediately. That's on us. Your installation continues without interruption or cost to you.

If You Did DIY:
You took the installation risk. That's your responsibility. We're honest about this upfront.

Why This Matters
After 15+ years installing bespoke mirrors across the UK, we've learned one thing: customers don't need warranty language.

They need confidence.

They need to know that if we make a mistake, we'll own it.

That's what integrity looks like.
Ready to Order With Confidence?
No fine print. No surprises. Just honest work.

The 60-75% Rule: Why Most People Size Mirrors Wrong

Here's a principle that separates professional design from amateur guessing:
Proportion = Intention

Most homeowners choose mirror size based on what's available or what "looks nice." They're not applying any principle. They're just hoping.

Here's what actually works.
The Rule: 60-75% is the Sweet Spot

A mirror should be 60-75% of the wall width it's mounted on.
Why?

At 60-75%, the mirror reads as chosen. Intentional. Designed.
Below 50%, it floats—like an afterthought.
Above 80%, it dominates—like it's fighting the wall.
60-75% is where your eye reads proportion as intention.

Why Your Brain Works This Way

Our brains are wired to read proportion as intention. A mirror at 60-75% says: "This was chosen. This space was designed." A mirror at 40% says: "This is accidental."

How We Apply It at GDS
Send us your wall measurements. We calculate the ideal size using this principle, then show you exactly what it looks like in a CAD drawing before we manufacture.

No guessing. No surprises. Just proportion applied to your space.

Ready to Size It Right?

Message us your wall dimensions. We'll show you what the 60-75% principle looks like in your room.
