Always a pleasure to renovate these decks.
This is one of a pair that were in need of tonearm strip and rebuild, target lights and a deep clean.
They came up beautifully and are now performing as they should.🧐

Unfortunately I forgot to take a "before" picture of this deck...it's quite a transformation.
Beside refurbing and cleaning the mech, the motor was completely seized which was quite a challenge.
Here we have it re-installed to the main unit (new mains cable fitted)
Very surprised at how good this radiogram sounds, really warm and clear.🧐

These are constructed from tin with bend over tabs to hold everything in place.

Let's end the week with this...um...these things... Audio equipment they are not! but...Look out Repair Shop!
I couldn't resist sharing this and the next post.
Both are early 60s Japanese battery operated automatons that weren't "automatating" (new word)
They are as new, in the original boxes and now, after coaxing the mechs and lubrication we to automatating automatons.🧐

Ok, I know it's DJ kit and I'm not inclined to post this stuff normally, but...
This Pioneer DJM-A9 mixer had odd problems with the bass end dropping off intermittently on two channels. After much dismantling, I got to the culprit...there are bad solder joints and there are these, see pic.
A reflow, clean up and firmware update...we're back in the game.🧐

Complete service to transport mech incl reel brakes, VU lamps, total de-mag, one toggle switch replaced, and we have a working machine that is performing as good as it looks.
At 15 ips the sound is near perfect. I initially thought the tape monitor switch was faulty, but it wasn't, that's how good the recording is.🧐

It's been far too long and well over due...
Let's start with some top quality gear, namely Naim NAP 250 amp.
This one had really odd distortion at the customer's house. It sounded just like the tweeters were faulty, change of speaker system proved it wasn't. it took a lot of head scratching and investigation back in the workshop to discover the problem was with the power amp.
The upshot...
All electrolytic capacitors replaced with high end capacitors, and we have clean and remarkable sound from this very well built system.🧐
