I have recently had my works added to The Hermitage Museum in St Petersburg and I want to share some of the inspiration behind the designs. You’ll see them in my next post!
The red and gold shoes ‘Designed in 1923 by Swedish shoemaker Bernhard Gronberg, these red leather pumps reflect the Russian Revival trend popular in the early 1920’s, with bold appliqué and theatrical color contrasts inspired by Slavic folk and Ballets Russes aesthetic.’ Quoted
Also the graphic nature of the Kirghiz patterns really lends itself to inlaid leather techniques, I have always been fond of the inspiration being drawn from landscapes in the patterns.

We called our display at last weeks ‘Flights of Fancy’. An invitation to use imagination when placing a bespoke commission. We borrowed shoes previously commissioned by clients and created a few new ones for the event. All had a bird theme and featured embroidery and feather work and can you spot the molded beaks on the toes of the shoes in the suspended cloche?
