12,5 years ago, I was pregnant with my second child and preparing for his birth. My first had been an emergency c section and I was keen to explore all the options when someone made an off-hand comment. They asked me if I was going to try to give birth to this baby as I had not given birth to my son.

For her it was an innocent question, for me it was a punch in the gut. I remember physically recoiling and how it immediately took me back to feelings of failure over the birth of my oldest and whilst it no longer hurts to think about it, it does still take me back to a feeling of being let down by someone who should have been supporting me.

So for everyone who has given birth through a c-section. Whether it was through choice or through necessity, how you birth your baby does not define who you are as a parent. I do believe that your birth experience shapes the start of your journey, it does not however define it. Don’t let anyone tell you that you are less because of the way you birthed, it is not a competition.

My first two babies came through the dotted red line and my last two came through my birth canal and out of my va**na. I am not magically a better mother to the last two.

Touching is a form of communication. I love how M has her own method of comfort touch. This is her at 5 months old, touching my face whilst she slept on my shoulder. She was not well and this was the only way she would relax enough to sleep. I sat like this most of the day. This morning She woke up at 6am and touched my face in the same way. Touching my face ( and now putting her face on mine) is a way of comfort touch for her. I love that she has found her own comforting touch ( even if I do not always love being touched in that way)

School run - We have an amazing school right in the middle of our village. I love that I can walk on the school run and right now back carrying is making it a lot easier. For part of the way there is no pavement so having a toddler walk by herself is tricky. On my back in the she can see where we are going and take an active part in our journey. She especially loves it when we come across one of the village cats.

Something else I love is my babywearing coat, would you believe this one is nearly 11 years old! They can seem like something expensive to invest in yet they can really last and can make carrying in colder weather so much easier. M is wearing a thick cardigan and a tie on . hat and she is incredibly comfortable and warm.

Easter holidays, she has grown so fast. Contact is so important her and by carrying her in a sling we give her so many more opportunities for touch and contact
