From Tub 2 Pub – let’s give plastic a new lease of life! 🌟

Don’t let your festive plastic tubs go to waste! Bring your clean, empty plastic confectionery and cracker tubs to your nearest Greene King pub, in January, to be recycled. ♻️

Tubs are collected and taken to a plastic reprocessing centre where they’re shredded, before being sold onto plastic manufacturers to use in place of virgin plastics.

All money raised from the sale of Tub2Pub plastics will be given directly to Macmillan Cancer Support Cancer Support. Last year, the campaign collected over 50,000 tubs and raised £11,308 for this amazing cause! 💚

Use the Greene King pub finder to find your nearest participating pub and make a difference this New Year. 🙌

We are closing!
Unfortunately the crisp packet /snacks recycling scheme via terracycle is closing.
So we will be stopoing collecting your hard to recycle plastics at the Usk hub from the end of October.
Thank you all for your support, we have supported many local charities and good causes with the funds raised over the past few years. I will post a summary of our charitable support soon.
You can still recycle

Plastics at co-op and other supermarkets

Pens at Usk Primary School - who are also temporarily collecting tupperware and hard plastic drinks bottles to be recycled (not the single use kind)

Please have a think about ways you can manage the first step in the chain - reduce comes before reuse and recycle.

Unfortunately the recycling scheme for confectionery wrappers is closing. Please bring all wrappers to the hub by the end of this week (10/11/23) so I can ship them off before the deadline. You can take wrappers to the supermarket collection bins for plastic.
Please do not put confectionery wrappers in with any other recycling at the hub or our other waste becomes contaminated and maybe refused by terracycle

Thank you for all of your recycling so far! The crisp/nut packet, biscuit/cakebar wrapper and toothbrush/toothpaste schemes remain open at the hub.

We can also accept pens and I am now able to take tupperware style lunch boxes and reusable plsatic drinks bottles also, please message [email protected] to find out how and where to drop your lunchboxes and drinks bottles for recycling, please do not bring to the hub

It's that time of year again!
Don't forget we can take all of your sweet/chocolate wrappers at Usk Hub for the terracycle recycling scheme.
But recycling this plastic is not the answer. Where you can, please please consider non-plastic options for your treats.
We are so lucky here in Usk to be surrounded by options for plastic free treats.

Usk weigh at the Willows garden centre sell sweets by weight, in paper bags or in your own container.
The sweet shop on the high street has a plethora of plastic free options.

Further afield,
Zero waste torfaen in Cwmbran, Wye weight in Monmouth and Sero in Newport have lots of refill options including sweets and chocolates.

Otherwise , you could consider options like smarties in cardboard tubes/boxes, kit kats with recyclable foil and paper wrappers, or even make your own at home! (Please don't bring paper or foil wrappers to the recycling drop off at the hub)

One step at a time we can all make a little difference

Well, what an amazing few days of celebrations!, the town and surrounding villages really did ourselves proud.

Did you have lots of picnics and parties? Don't forget you can recycle your crisp, biscuit, cracker and sweet wrappers at the hub in the dedicated recycling bins. Please seperate them into the correct bins.

Bunting, flags, party decorations, tablecloths? Can you reuse them? Might a local community organisation be able to use them? Can you offer them for free on marketplace or Olio to prevent them going to landfill? We made ours from recycled fabric (sheets, tablecloths) and will save it for future occasions

We are still here!
The baby food and yoghurt scheme has closed but you can still recycle with us. There are bins for;
Crisp/nut/pretzel packets
Biscuits/crackers/cake bars
Confectionery
Toothpaste tubes/toothbrushes

We can also take pens/highlighters/tippex pens, simply out inside a seperate reused bag/envelope or other receptacle and place in the toothbrush bin. Alternatively, if you are at Usk school for any other reason, there is a bin in the foyer.
