The nights are drawing in and we’re already noticing fireworks going off. From October through until 30th November, we will offer a discounted visit fee for noise phobia appointments.
When booking with us please let us know it’s for firework medications and we’ll make sure to apply the discount.
The offer is for both new and existing clients.
Whilst we will always try our best to fit clients in, we would recommend booking in advance as we are still experiencing a very busy period at the moment.

When you arrive home from a full days work, only to find this grass seed sticking out of your own dog’s eye!! 🫣🤦‍♀️ With grass seed season clearly in full swing, we thought we’d write a quick post below! Keep an eye out everyone, they are the worst!

‼️Grass seed season‼️
Grass seeds can be a real problem during the summer, they can easily become lodged in your pets coat and from there they can migrate through the skin and basically anywhere they fancy. Most commonly they will cause issues with ears, eyes, noses and feet.
For this reason we recommend always checking between your pets toes after walks, or try to avoid long grass when the seed is starting to shed.
Pets tend to show signs of itching, licking and the area becomes inflamed quickly. If you suspect a grass seed, it’s best to be seen promptly, as migrating seeds can require scans to locate, and surgery to remove them.

5 things I pack as a vet taking my very accident prone whippet on holiday! Does anyone have any extras? 🏖️🍦

Believe it or not, this is the best photo we could take of Shadow today, who was clearly unfazed by having her vaccinations 😆 she was much more bothered about being the centre of attention and playing with a ball that she’d stollen from her sister! 🎾

☀️It’s set to be a scorcher this weekend, so we thought we’d share a few tips for keeping your pets cool☀️

🦮 Avoid walking your dog during the day. If they really have to go out make sure it’s early morning or late evening.
💦 Keep lots of fresh water available
⛲️ Paddling pools work well if your dog enjoys water, cool mats are an option for those that don’t
🐈 Keep cats indoors where possible (make sure it doesn’t cause them stress and always have 2 litter trays per cat available for them to use whilst inside)
🧊Freeze some treats or toys, use puzzle feeders to keep them occupied
🪭Set up a fan/ shaded area inside where they can rest. Open windows to keep the air moving through.

‼️flat-faced breeds, puppies and elderly pets are much more sensitive to heat. If you have any worries about your pet always call your vet‼️

We are making changes to our medication posting times: All repeat medications will be posted once weekly by 24hr tracked every Wednesday. You can still place orders with us at any time, but they will now be sent out on Wednesdays. Keep reading if you’d like a little update from us!

Our week away has given us time to think about the future of Iris Vets.
We are becoming very busy, which we feel so grateful about and appreciate each and every one of our clients.
But it has put pressure on us to try and streamline things (especially our admin which takes hours out of each day).
We don’t have any intention of growing Iris Vets into a big business.
We want to continue to provide a personable service to our local community, and as most of you know, I am a vet, not a business person! I want to keep it that way.

That being said, we have decided to trial a new system for our medications being posted, so they will be sent out once a week rather than everyday. This lets us spend less time at the post office and leaves more time available to offer appointments.
It is just a trial and if it doesn’t work we will think of something else!
We thank you all for your continued support and hope you have a lovely bank holiday!

☀️We are taking a short break from 24th April -1st May☀️
The work phone will be monitored for enquiries by us whilst we’re away. Calder Vets Dewsbury will be covering any urgent appointments for us.
We are aware we have a couple of second vaccine appointments during this time which will be covered by our nurse, Megan.
Please make sure to order repeat medications by 21st April so we can post them out for you in time. Thank you!
