A little celebration on the first day back at school! 🎉

My son came home excited to tell me that “quiet reading” has had a rethink.
Instead of everyone sitting silently reading the same type of school book, there are now options.

📚 Audiobooks
🃏 Top Trumps and reading about areas of interest
📖 Books from home
💬 Comics and alternative reading materials

What a breath of fresh air!

A gentle reminder that reading looks different for everyone, and offering choice can make such a difference.

Seeing this small but meaningful change in a school setting has made me incredibly excited about what the next year might bring.

A fresh outlook. Different approaches. More choice.

Sometimes inclusion doesn't have to mean creating something completely new. Sometimes it starts with simply asking, “What if there was another way?”

Hurrah for a more inclusive approach to learning. 💚

And breathe.....

Resuming some form of normality comes with mixed emotions. The sadness and reflection of more relaxed days being over for a while, the pride of the determination within them, the question over whether I do enough, the excitement for growing my business... most of all the overwhelming love.

A soppy day for me, and thats only one returned to school.

Sending all parents/carers in the emotional whirlwind a whole lot of love and a hug. You've got this. 🥰

Big news, the Leave It To Lauren team is growing!

Soon I'll be able to offer bookkeeping, content creation, and social media support too, through a small, trusted network of associates working alongside me.

I know handing admin over takes trust, especially with sensitive client info involved.

So here's my promise to you:
Nothing gets passed to an associate without your say so. It only ever happens with your agreement, and every associate works to the same secure processes I do.
You'll always know who's supporting you. You'll always have the final say.

I'm taking early interest now, so if this sounds like something that could give you a bit more headspace, send me a message. I'd love to chat 💌

I'm back to it after a wonderful break with my family in beautiful menorca.

I will be working flexible hours over the following few weeks until normality resumes. Here's just a little snapshot of how working from home goes with a curious 9 year old.

Diary chaos in private practice:

Running your own SLT caseload means you're also, unofficially, running a diary management system, an invoicing department, and a customer service line.

This also involves, missed sessions that need rebooking. Parents messaging to change appointment times. Invoices that should've gone out last week. None of it is clinical work, but all of it takes time away from your clients.

This is exactly the kind of thing that can be delegated to someone else, so your diary runs smoothly.

What a retainer actually means:

“What's the difference between ad hoc and a retainer?”

I get asked this a lot, so here's the plain version.

Ad hoc is exactly what it sounds like: you come to me when you need something, no ongoing commitment.

A retainer means a set number of hours booked in each month, so you've always got support without having to ask each time.

Neither is “better,” they just suit different stages/types of business. If you're not sure which fits you, that's exactly what a discovery call is for, no pressure, just a conversation.

Report writing burnout:

If you're an independent SLT, I don't need to tell you the capacity it takes to compose a single report.

The assessment itself is often the easy part. It's the hours afterwards, structuring findings and choosing every word carefully that can be consuming and quietly eat your evenings and weekends. This is because you know how much it matters to the family reading it, and you care.

A second pair of eyes for proofreading, or just getting a report client-ready doesn't replace your clinical judgement, it just gives you back some of those hours. If report writing has been taking over your life lately, you're allowed to ask for help.

Making the handover easy (not another job on your to-do list)

Here's the thing about onboarding a VA that nobody warns you about. If it's complicated, it defeats the whole point.

You're already limited on time, juggling clinic with the mountain of admin behind the scenes. The last thing you need is additional admin just to get some help.

I've made it as easy as possible on your end. A guided process, one step at a time, so you're not left guessing what to send, when, or how.

There's no dumping a folder of files on me and hoping I work it out. Instead, we talk through what you actually need first, agree what's being shared and how, and only then does anything change hands.

I've popped the process below so you can see exactly what it looks like in practice. No surprises, no scramble. Just a calm start to a much calmer admin life.
