Although the law is due to change soon regarding towing allowances on driving licences, it is still important to take some training if you are planning to tow for the first time.

A big CONGRATULATIONS to Sarah who passed her B+E test today…. Meaning she is now licensed to tow her trailer, horse box or caravan whenever she wants!

Towing training isn't just about achieving your B+E category on your licence. It may be just about gaining the confidence to tow. Today's session for the Northants 4X4 Response Team was to make sure that, if they are called to supply logistical support at a time of crisis, they are all towing to the same high standard that we believe in. What a great day and thank you for using The Road Ahead Driving school.

Are you aware that tyres have a “Date Stamp” and do you know how to read it?
How often do you use your trailer or caravan? Once or twice a year? A few times a month? Quite often trailer tyres don’t get enough use to wear out. The tread depth may well be over the minimum 1.6mm required by law and the side walls may appear to be in good condition and free from any damage, BUT, if your trailer tyres are over 5 years old you should be thinking about getting them changed. There is a possibility that if they are over 7 years old, your insurance may not cover you. You will need to check your insurance policy for that.
Here is what to look for to find the date of manufacture. An oval shaped stamp with four digits that give you the week and the year that your tyres were produced.
