π· The Garden Remembers Her Hands π·
There's a particular kind of joy that comes from kneeling in your own garden, soil under your fingernails, choosing exactly where a new bloom should go. For our client, that joy was once as natural as breathing, a Saturday morning ritual of wandering the garden centre, falling in love with a colour or a scent, and bringing it home to plant with her own two hands.
Then things changed. The body that once moved so easily through rows of flowers found new limits. And with that, something quietly slipped away, not just a hobby, but a piece of who she is.
This morning, it came back to her.
Our "Walfinch Watford & Hemel Hempstead", support worker walked beside her , hands in hand, through the garden centre. Exactly as a trusted friend would patient, unhurried, letting her take her time choosing what spoke to her.
Back home, they planted this newly bought orange and yellow bright lily plant together in the same soil she's tended for years. She kept telling "a little left" , "Give it a breathing space". Her hands virtually doing the planting, her support simply there steady, present, ready to help and doing as she would like this plant to be planted.
No one took this moment from her. We simply helped her hold onto it.
This is what real care looks like. Not care that decides for you, but care that listens. The care that protects the small, sacred routines that make a life feel like your life. Because losing independence shouldn't mean losing yourself.
