CLANDON PARK RDA SPONSORED FUN RIDES

We wanted to send you a reminder that our next fabulous RDA Sponsored Ride is taking place at Clandon Park on Sunday 22nd of September.

Our sponsored rides are critical fundraisers for Horsley, Bookham & Leatherhead RDA. They are one of the largest RDA groups in the South of England, thanks to the brilliant fundraising via their “Raise the Roof' campaign in 2020 to build a brand new, fully accessible centre. They now have 11 ponies, and put on over 100 rides each week, 30 weeks a year for local children and young adults, with support from over 100 amazing volunteers who make this possible. In addition to this, they work with local charities like Dyscover, to offer riding experiences for adults who are recovering from strokes, and they work with local care homes to offer 'Tea with Ponies' to their residents who have onset dementia. In short they do a lot, and it costs a lot, so they have to put on big events like the Clandon Park RDA sponsored ride to raise the £85k a year that they need to meet their annual running costs.

They still have places available on our next ride. The entry form is here: September Clandon Park RDA Sponsored Ride 2024 in aid of Horsley, Bookham & Leatherhead RDA | H,B & L RDA (hblrda.co.uk)

We are all working hard to continually improve this ride and boost your enjoyment. This is what you can expect:
* A wonderful course, across our private parkland of c7.5 miles
* We have put in varying height fences at many of the jumps - so options from 40-80 (and all jumps are optional)
* We have put in a crossing option at the stream - no horse has to get their feet wet !
* We are running much of the lead rein route separately from the main ride - and we've put out some tiny optional jumps on this ride too
* We have improved the signage from the main road to help lorries turning and for you to find us easily
* We have bought in a catering team to ensure you have teas and coffees before / after
We would love to see you on this ride - and if not this year, then in 2025. Please share and tell your friends about it - in our survey after the last ride 100% of riders said they would recommend this event to others. Please spread the word and help us with this wonderful important fundraising event.

Many thanks, and we hope to see you on the 22nd September.

Jo and the Trustees at HB&L RDA and Clandon Park.

Thank you
From all of the Trustees

This is just so heartbreaking.

Sheep were chased in a bloody rampage which left a total of 21 ewes and 24 lambs dead.

CLANDON PARK
LAMBING & SHEPHERDING
EXPERIENCE DAYS !
(no prior experience required)

At Clandon Park every one of our native rare breed sheep are vitally important to the survival of the Whitefaced Woodland critically endangered breed.
According to the Rare Breeds Survival Trust (RBST) Clandon Park now have the largest double registered flock of these sheep in the World.

Each year we provide hundreds of veterinary student lambing placement and work experience opportunities at Clandon Park. In 2023 we also opened up the opportunity for members of the public to join us on practical 1, 2 or 5 Day Courses.

After having received such amazing feedback from members of the public who attended last year, we would like to announce the dates for 2024 Shepherding and Lambing experience Days.

IDEAL DATES TO ATTEND:
April 5th and May 5th - 9am to 5pm .
You may attend all day or part days within these hours.
Our lambing season starts earlier and finishes later than these dates but days within these dates offer the best opportunities to optimise your experience.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND ?
Our attendees have included people from all age groups, all walks of life and from a wide range of backgrounds including those who have no prior knowledge of farms or sheep.
If you are keen to gain real-life experience of a day in the life of a shepherd who is working with a critically endangered breed, with the real possibility of assisting a shepherd to bring a pure bred new born lamb into the World (if you wish) this is the opportunity of a lifetime.

Funds raised from the “Lambing and Shepherding Experience” days contribute directly towards caring for and protecting this critically endangered breed at Clandon Park.

ONE DAY SHEPHERDING - £60
Learning about, training and assisting in the care of our rare breed flock and all new born lambs including health checks and bottle feeding if required. There is a strong possibility of hands-on lambing experience during the day.

TWO DAYS SHEPHERDING - £110
Learning about, training and assisting in the care of our rare breed flock and all new born lambs including health checks and bottle feeding as required. Over two days you are highly likely to gain hands-on Lambing experience.

Wonderful to have found these wonderful books that once graced the library at Clandon House. I found them for sale last year and purchased them back for the family library …. Just collected them from Oxford and bought them inside out of the cold boot of my car. It always gives me a warm feeling when I buy these family things back …. when something that has been missing for a long time finally comes home !!!! Just another 47 more missing books to go !!!!
