Installation complete. Now it is time to put the system to the test.

This FHOSS Safety Crossing has been installed at a UK site and is being fully tested before becoming part of the site’s everyday operations.

Because where pedestrians and vehicles cross paths, movement needs to be clear, controlled and understood by everyone.

The system uses visual and audio cues to help manage pedestrian movement and support safer crossing between people, vehicles and plant.

But installation is only one part of the process.

Every element is tested to make sure the system works properly in the real environment where people will rely on it.

Because safety should not be left to assumption.

It should be installed, tested and ready to protect.

When machines this size are moving, being seen is not enough.

JCB shovel loaders operate in demanding environments where noise, blind spots and constant movement can put pedestrians dangerously close to heavy plant.

That is why FHOSS Field exists.

Using human form detection, the system helps identify when someone enters a defined danger zone and alerts the operator in real time.

It also records breach data, giving site teams the evidence they need to understand risk, review incidents and help prevent them happening again.

Because safety should not rely on luck or someone being spotted at the last second.

It should be designed to act before the incident happens.

When standard signage is not enough, safety needs to be impossible to miss.

Kurt Williams, Project Manager at BAM Construction in Bristol, shared that they needed to exclude people from certain areas of the site and wanted something better than the typical signage and alarm they had been using.

That is where FHOSS High Level Line Lights made the difference. Creating clear, projected visual guidance, the system helps define restricted areas and support safer movement around high-risk zones.

No fading floor markings. No unclear boundaries. No relying on people noticing a sign too late.

Just a highly visible way to help workers understand where risk exists.
Because exclusion zones only work when they are clear, visible and respected.

Forklifts are part of everyday operations. But so is the risk around them.
We have shared several HSE cases recently involving pedestrians being seriously injured, and in some cases killed, after coming into contact with moving vehicles and plant.

That is why this installation matters.

FHOSS Field has been installed onto this forklift to help detect human form around the vehicle and alert the driver when someone enters a danger zone.
Because in busy yards, warehouses, waste facilities and industrial environments, people and vehicles often work closer than they should.

A moment of poor visibility. A blind spot. A distracted pedestrian. A reversing vehicle. That is all it can take.

FHOSS Field is designed to support real-time awareness where the risk is active, helping drivers respond before a breach becomes an incident.

Because safety should not depend on someone being seen at the last second.
It should be designed to prevent the accident before it happens.

Recognition is never the reason we do what we do. But it does show how far FHOSS has come.

Andy reflects on some of the awards and achievements the business has received over the years, from our most recent Somerset Business Award for Best Use of Digital Technology, to earlier recognition in New York for our Global Glow high visibility clothing.

There was also recognition in London through the Worshipful Company of Carmen, connected to the transport and fleet industry.
But for a period of time, awards were not the focus.

The focus was building. Improving the systems. Growing the business. Supporting clients.

Creating safety solutions that could make a real difference in high-risk environments.

Because for FHOSS, innovation has never been about chasing trophies.
It has always been about solving real problems.

Helping people be seen. Helping sites reduce risk. Helping businesses protect the people working around vehicles, plant and machinery every day.

Awards are a proud reminder of the journey. But the purpose remains the same.

Preventing crush injuries before they happen.

A worker lost his life after being struck by a reversing tele-handler.

It did not have to happen.

Stuart Garnet, 44, was working at a waste and recycling facility in Cumbria when he was hit by a reversing telehandler. He later passed away from his injuries. HSE found the company failed to ensure pedestrians and vehicles could circulate safely on site.

That finding matters. Because in waste, recycling, construction and heavy industry, pedestrians and plant often work dangerously close together.

Reversing vehicles.
Blind spots.
Noise.
Pressure.
Constant movement.

One missed moment can change everything.

HSE said suitable separation measures could have prevented this fatal injury, and the company was fined Β£60,000 with further costs ordered by the court.

This is why FHOSS exists. This is WHY we do what we do!

To help detect human form around moving plant and alert drivers when someone enters a danger zone.

Because safety should not rely on someone being seen at the last second.

It should be designed to prevent the incident before it happens.

Safety support should not depend on where your site is. That is why FHOSS has access to over 300 engineers across the UK.

Because when a business is ready to improve site safety, delays should not become another barrier.

Our national engineer network allows us to offer installation lead times of around 7 to 14 days, depending on the project, location and system requirements.

But the support does not stop once the system is installed. If a client has an issue, our FHOSS Protect Plan means we can react quickly, get to site and help keep their safety systems working as they should.

That matters. Because in high-risk environments, downtime is not just inconvenient. It can affect operations and it can affect the systems people are relying on to stay safe.

FHOSS is built around more than installation. We are built around long-term support, fast response and making sure our clients feel looked after from day one.

Because protecting people means being there when it matters.

A yard operative in Aberdeen has suffered life-changing injuries after being struck by a reversing forklift truck while working on foot.

He was unclipping a trailer curtain when the rear wheel of the forklift made contact with his leg, causing multiple fractures, a serious de-gloving injury, two surgeries and skin grafts. HSE also reported that he has needed counselling and has not returned to work.

The company was fined Β£146,700. But the real cost is the person whose life has been changed.

HSE found the company’s traffic management plan did not provide the level of detail needed to keep pedestrians safe where loading and unloading were happening at the same time.

That is the part every site should take seriously. Because in busy yards, warehouses, waste facilities and industrial environments, risk does not always come from people ignoring rules.

Sometimes the system around them does not protect them properly.
Pedestrians and plant need more than a written plan.

They need clear separation. Real-time awareness. Controls that work on the ground. Systems that help prevent a breach becoming an injury.

This is why FHOSS does what it does. Because safety should not rely on someone being seen at the last second. It should be designed to prevent the incident before it happens.

Safety improvements should not bring the site to a standstill.

That is exactly why FHOSS Safety Crossing is designed to work around live operational environments.

As one client shared:

β€œThe installation process was as straightforward as it can be. It was installed within half a day, it was up and running the same day and it was in use immediately.”

That matters.

Because when people and vehicles are crossing paths every day, the risk is already active.

Sites need safety solutions that can be installed efficiently, understood quickly and used immediately.

No long delays.
No unnecessary disruption.
No complicated handover process.

Just a clearer, safer way to manage pedestrian movement around vehicles and plant.

Because improving safety should be practical enough to happen without waiting for the perfect moment.
