One of the biggest misconceptions in nail shaping is that strength comes from product thickness alone …. When in reality, structure starts with understanding geometry.
-
In the top image, notice how point A and B creates an uneven line underneath the free edge. This often happens when filing is approached from “removing product” rather than understanding the architecture of the nail. The result? A weaker lower arch, imbalance through the side walls, and a shape that is more prone to breaking , flexing or lifting.

In the second image, the line from A to B is balanced and intentional. By understanding the geometric relationship between the lower arch, side walls and apex placement, we create a structurally stronger enhancement with cleaner support through the free edge.

This is why hand filing technique matters so much:

When you truly understand the structure you are creating:
- filing becomes more controlled
- symmetry improves
- product application becomes more refined
- durability improves
- and excessive e-file work underneath becomes unnecessary

The goal should never be to carve out structure afterwards. The goal is to build and refine the shape correctly from the beginning.

A well structured nail should already make sense geometrically before an e-file ever touches underneath.

I see this all the time with nail techs… and honestly, I’ve been there myself.

You start your business wanting to be nice, flexible, easy to book with… you don’t want to come across strict or “too much”.
-
So you don’t put proper policies in place.
At first, it doesn’t feel like a big deal.
You let a late client slide… you squeeze someone in… you let a cancellation go because “these things happen”.
-
But then it becomes a pattern.
And suddenly you’re dealing with:
– last minute cancellations
– clients turning up late
– gaps in your day you can’t refill
And you’re working just as hard… but earning less than you should be.

The hardest part?
It starts to feel like clients don’t respect you.
