Welding Team Leader | £32,500 - £40,000 p/a + Bonus | Witham | 4 Day Week

We're recruiting for an experienced Welding Team Leader to join a growing engineering and manufacturing business in Witham, producing construction products for prestigious projects worldwide, working a 4-day week (Monday-Thursday).

This is a great opportunity for a hands-on welding professional with proven leadership skills who's confident motivating a team and driving continuous improvement in a quality-focused environment.

You'll lead and support the welding team, allocate workloads and monitor production progress, ensure welding operations meet quality and safety standards, and work closely with production, quality and engineering teams to maintain ISO compliance and drive Lean/5S initiatives.

This permanent role offers a salary of circa £37,000 plus profit-related bonus, 20 days' holiday plus bank holidays, flexible working, company pension, and life assurance cover.

MIG, TIG or Laser welding experience essential; CWI, Six Sigma or fenestration industry experience advantageous.

At the same time, manufacturing employers are telling us they're struggling to find skilled staff. Skilled trades are seeing experienced workers retire faster than they're being replaced, meaning employers are competing harder than ever for the same small group of candidates.

But 3 in 5 young people who apply for manufacturing apprenticeships don't take up the opportunity, simply because there isn't one available locally.

We're proud of many things, but this year marks another special milestone for us too - 10 years in our current Witham office.

We’ve always been based in Witham, but back in 2016, our Managing Director Robyn Holmes decided it was time for us to have a purpose-built building of our own.

So, to celebrate, we’ve searched through the archives and put together some photos from along the way. 📸

From our original Witham High Street office, where we were based from 1992–2016, to the very first photos of the new site, the building work, the move in and plenty of before-and-afters.

And, of course, we couldn’t leave out some of the office favourites… including our Prime tree and our miniature train! 🚂

And yes, the train really does go around the office when we make a placement. 😂

34 years, 10 years in our current home and 100,000+ placements later — we’re still doing what we love, right here in Witham.

Let's talk about office and support roles in manufacturing: finance, customer service, purchasing, HR, production admin.

A CV tells you what someone can do. It doesn't always tell you whether they'll settle into your business.

Here's a question we get asked a lot. If a candidate has the right skills for the role, but their only experience is in a corporate office, are they still worth considering for a manufacturing site?

We think so, but only if both sides go in with their eyes open.

An office role in manufacturing isn't quite the same job as an office role in a corporate London office. The systems might look identical on paper, but the day-to-day often isn't.

Plans can change at 10am. Production takes priority. People need to adapt quickly, and that happens more often than you'd think.

Some people take that in their stride. Others find it a real shock to the system. And that's not something a CV can tell you.

That's why we look past technical skills to resilience, adaptability and how someone handles pressure. It's the sort of thing that only really comes out when you sit down and have a proper conversation with someone.

We've been getting to know manufacturing businesses across East Anglia since 1992, so we've got a good feel for what tends to work. It helps our clients avoid a costly mis-hire, and helps candidates know exactly what they're walking into.

If you're hiring, a few things worth doing:

- Be upfront about the working environment in your job advert
- Ask situational questions in interview, not just CV questions
- Give candidates a realistic picture of the role before they accept, not after they've started

Get that right, and a candidate from a completely different background can become one of your best long-term hires.
