Some of you know that I've had a long and varied career in Marketing taking me from corporate world to running my own Stationery business with Got2Jot.

Over those years I have recognised that some of my strongest skills lie in Marketing Strategy and Planning.

With Got2Jot I come across so many small business owners who have a great product or service but really struggle with their Marketing focusing mainly on social media for their activity. Yes it definitely has its place in your plans but there are so many other options open to you offline and online to grow your business.

So I took the plunge and have launched Market Explorers as a Marketing Mentoring service to run alongside Got2Jot.

Providing face to face workshops and bespoke 1:1 training to help small business owners lay down the right Marketing foundations, define their propositions and offer by exploring gaps and opportunities to shape their strategy and Marketing plans.

“Running a business is really hard”

What they don’t tell you is that it can cause severe anxiety, and drains you mentally to the point of depression in even the most laid back people.

People will talk about you, compare you to others, use you, they will view you as a service and not a person anymore. You have to worry about if you forget to email/message someone back, are they going to think it was on purpose? Did you disappoint them? Will they hold that against you? When in reality you just can’t get to everyone’s messages and emails.

Starting up and running a successful business puts incredible strain on personal lives and relationships, many of which fail because there just is no work life balance when starting a new business. You need to be the director, the worker, the admin, the marketing team, the accountant, the cleaner..... All whilst being a parent, a husband or a wife, family support, friend...

There’s a reason you don’t see many people succeed in small businesses after 5-10 years. It takes a toll. It’s freaking exhausting. Especially this past year. Here’s a small reminder that we are just normal people with hectic lives. Be kind, be patient….. and hopefully more of us will stick around!”

Yesterday, I attended my regular monthly networking meeting with Busy Women Networking – Chicheley group.

During the meeting we are given a 40 sec pitch opportunity and as yesterday marked the start of National Mental health awareness week, I chose to speak about the mental health benefits of outsourcing.

Have you ever thought about outsourcing certain tasks and managing your time more efficiently?

Outsourcing certain tasks can in essence, free up some of your time, which is a healthy thing. Free time for you, to do whatever you choose to do, take some time out and unwind and focus your mind elsewhere.

Outsourcing can give you peace of mind, it can slow you down as you know that your tasks are being completed elsewhere.

Multitasking can erode productivity and has also been proven to increase stress and in fact, we aren’t programmed to do several things at once with the same level of efficiency and it can in fact lead to memory issues.

So, is it time to take a look at your workload and see if you have some tasks that can be outsourced? Is it time to work smarter and not harder?

Is it time to create a team that works with you, on your business and create that perfect work / life balance?
