I help businesses show up online with clarity and confidence.

In my work I focus on three areas: tech, retirement real estate, and wellbeing. The challenge is always the same: what to post, how to say things without saying too much - whether that’s NDAs in tech, health issues in wellbeing, or sensitive conversations around retirement estates. And most importantly, how to build trust and reputation without putting people off.

Through Visually Explained (VE4) I specialise in organic social media. Clear strategy, practical ideas, and consistent support. I turn complex or delicate subjects into content that’s simple, authentic, and gets your brand noticed.

I also deliver LinkedIn training, one-to-one support, and talks on personal branding and the role of AI.

Over time I’ve become the quiet power helping engineers explain what they do, retirement estates connect with families, and wellbeing practitioners show up in a way that feels safe and natural.

I love digital nomad freedom.

Social media engagement

It’s easy to lose faith in organic social media when you see only a handful of likes and comments. It can feel like your brand is invisible - but it isn’t.

If you’ve been building your presence for some time, you already have followers. (If you don’t, that’s another issue. There are proactive steps to grow your audience on LinkedIn and Instagram. Perhaps we need to talk?)

Think about the “silent witness” effect. The algorithm still puts your posts in front of people. Check your impressions and reach in analytics - the numbers prove it. Many won’t react. They’re busy, distracted, or simply prefer to stay invisible. But they still see you.

By maintaining your organic presence, your brand keeps raising its hand saying: “I’m here, remember me.”

Now imagine the opposite. If you weren’t visible, would anyone remember you? Or would they go to your competitor who keeps showing up?

👉 Do you believe your silent audience matters?

Here’s the thing that is misunderstood about employee advocacy

Employee advocacy is often explained as a way to “help the company” - more reach, more sales, more visibility. That’s true, but it misses the real point.

Advocacy is first about the employee. Every time you share online, you’re building your personal brand: showing up as knowledgeable, approachable, and trusted in your field. That visibility stays with you, even if your role changes.

The business wins too but only as a result of employees growing their own voice. A visible team makes for a visible brand.

The problem is many employees still see posting as “just marketing.” Leaders need to explain it better, give simple rules, and support staff who want to be visible. Get that part right, and both personal and company brands grow stronger together.

👉 Do you think advocacy is explained clearly enough in most workplaces?

Weekend tip: keep a simple notes app on your phone for post ideas. Or, if that’s easier, record a quick voice note. Most of the best content ideas come outside the office - walking, cooking, travelling… and the shower (big one for ideas!). Write them down straight away and you’ll never be left staring at a blank page again.
👉 Where do you get your best ideas?

Engineering firms often tell me: “We’ve got nothing to post.” The challenge? NDAs, technical jargon, and a worry that no one outside the industry will care. The truth is, every project, every apprentice, every milestone has a story. My role is to spot it, cut the jargon, and make it engaging. That’s how technical brands become visible.

👉 What’s your biggest blocker - ideas, tone, or consistency?

Lessons Learned

What 10 years in digital marketing and social media has taught me:
✅ Planning makes life easier.
✅ Not every post will fly - and that’s OK.
✅ Engagement grows when you give value first.

👉 What’s the biggest lesson your career has taught you so far?

Sunday – Book Recommendation
Bounce by Matthew Syed. A great reminder that success isn’t about luck or raw talent - it’s about practice, resilience, and mindset. I often see the same with social media: showing up regularly brings results, not one-off big efforts.

Weekend Tip
You don’t need to reinvent the wheel every week. Some of your best posts are already sitting in your feed. Scroll back through the last 6 months and pick one that did well. Update it with a new angle, add a current example, or refresh the visual. Recycling strong content saves time and keeps your message consistent.

👉 Do you ever reuse your best posts, or do you always start from scratch?

Myth Busting
Myth: Social media doesn’t work for technical industries.
Truth: It does but it looks different. It’s not about viral dances or lifestyle shots, it’s about showing your expertise, your people, and the problems you solve. That’s what builds brand trust and attracts apprentices, new talents, clients, and partners.

👉 What other myths do you hear about social media?

AI + Human Creativity
AI is here to stay, but it doesn’t replace humans. It’s a productivity tool. No point in demonising it - the best way is to make it work for us. What it can’t do is intuition, authenticity, or creativity.

I use AI for research, first drafts, and analytics. I even play with it for images. But I always check the results, question them, challenge them, and then add the brand voice and personality. That’s the bit only I can do and that’s how I make AI work for me.

👉 Are you using AI in your marketing yet?
