North Notts Indies Spotlight - Lynx Black Belt Leadership Academy Retford 🥋

Lynx Black Belt Leadership Academy is a martial arts school located in the heart of Retford. The full-time professional school is led by the Chief Instructor Master Andrew Blinston, who teaches a variety of martial arts programs. The academy is extremely friendly and welcoming, with all classes being taught in a safe and controlled environment. The dedicated team of positive and motivated individuals helps the academy to strive, helping you achieve your desired fitness, health or lifestyle goals.

The academy was first established in 1986 in Doncaster, when Master Blinston became involved in the teaching and coaching of the martial arts at a local class in Armthorpe. Master Andrew Blinston and his wife, Rachel Blinston, decided to make the move to Retford in 2010, launching the full-time school in Retford 15 years ago. They have studied and trained in the Korean martial arts for years to master the disciplines and leadership of the martial arts. The business is family owned and run, with their daughter training alongside them to black belt third Dan and assisting with the administration and organisation of the Academy for many years.

Their belief is that being a martial artist is not just learning to kick and punch, it is about becoming the best that you can be in every way. Lynx black belt leadership Academy has plenty of experiences teaching a range of ages and capabilities, including those with disabilities. They have previously taught those with a variety of disabilities and social challenges, proving there is no boundaries to learning the art. Their youngest student has been 3 years old, with the eldest being 75. They have a variety of martial arts training programs available, including the following:

North Notts Indies Spotlight - ZenBean 🧘‍♂️☕

ZenBean is a fabulous coffee shop and yoga studio based in the centre of Worksop, offering a range of yoga classes and holistic treatments. You are immediately immersed into a welcoming and safe space once you walk through the doors. The business was opened in March 2024 by Jak and Paulina. Their combined love for coffee, yoga and mindfulness is what inspired this wonderful space.

The classes available in the studio differ from your typical gym yoga sessions. Mindfulness and meditation are heavily focused on, working on breathing exercises and using different sounds. There are a range of classes available throughout the daytime & evening from Monday - Saturday, including beginners’ yoga, sound baths, men’s yoga and they will soon be introducing sessions for seniors and children’s yoga.

The coffee shop consists of cosy seating nooks, perfect for those close catch ups with friends or family, or for a solo coffee trip. They offer a range of hot and cold drinks, including authentic coffees and speciality drinks. They also sell handmade sandwiches, bread and cakes which are freshly prepared with the finest local ingredients. In the new year, they will be introducing a fabulous new menu, consisting of smoothies, soups, toasties, Buddha bowls and more. Within the café, there is also a children’s area, with toys and books available to enjoy. They have also collaborated with a range of local artists and creatives, stocking and selling a range of products within the coffee shop such as self-care items, jewellery, herbal teas and more!

Cope Jewellers is a fabulous independent jewellers based in the heart of Worksop, which first opened in 1956. The store based on Bridge Street is run by the fifth generation of the family. They sell a range of traditional and contemporary jewellery, including Swiss watches, Pandora and Nomination.

The jewellers offer a range of repair and alteration services, including resizing rings, jewellery cleaning, pearl rethreading and more! You can also get your watch repaired, including new batteries and strap replacements.

Browse their range of fabulous watch brands available, including Olivia Burton, Rotary, Seiko and Nomination watches. They also sell engagement rings and the ever-popular Pandora. They stock a great range of Pandora charms, earrings and more.

Cope Jewellers has unique and fascinating history. The business first begun in 1845 when the Cope brothers established a clock manufacturing business in Nottingham. One of the brother’s children, Richard, later discovered his interest in developing the retail business and was trained by world-famous jeweller Gübelin. The family then went on to identify the importance of exceptional customer service and having a showroom full of beautiful pieces of jewellery and watches. The business is now managed by Susan Cope’s daughter, who has many years of experience.
