WHO ARE YOU?
As defined by Wikipedia, a "journey of self-discovery" refers to a travel, pilgrimage, or series of events whereby a person attempts to determine how they feel, personally, about spiritual issues or priorities, rather than following the opinions of family, friends, neighborhood or peer pressure.
Many a times, we take the power off of ourselves and make it other people's responsibility to define or determine who we are. Most often we do this unconsciously due to fear of not fitting in, fear of losing those we love and the fear of loneliness.
When we don't take the time to discover ourselves, It is very easy for us to accept and believe anything we're told we are by those we love and care about the most. The more we shy away from discovering our true selves, the more toxic we and our relationships with people becomes, be it in our marriages, places of work etc.
If we are in romantic relationships, we lose our sense of self and become absorbed into the relationship, grow to depend on the partnership for satisfaction, happiness, validation, and self worth. Now, that's what i tend to call hiring a landlord for your lives or living in a self that belongs to someone else.
The path to self discovery is scary, most people are afraid of what they may discover about themselves that they'd just pretend to not care about discovering who they are. But until you make the conscious decision to find your true self, people would direct your life and you'll mistake it for fate.
I just discovered that the most common people on planet earth are those who live their entire lives not really knowing who they are. I am very fortunate i had people who pushed me so hard these past months to that level where i started my journey towards self discovery.
You might want to join the train too, or you might assume you know yourself so well. If you think you know yourself that well, try answering these five basic questions as honest as possible.
1. Do you know yourself really well?
2. Are you clear about what you really want in life?
3. Do you have a sense of purpose?
4. What defines you?
5. What makes you happy?
If you can verbally give an answer to any of these questions without stuttering, you're on track.
