Identifying a business idea for a small start up is often about identifying a simple problem and solving it better, cheaper, and more conveniently. I present to you in a chronological order to spot a viable business idea:
1. Observe Problems Around You
Most successful businesses solve everyday problems. Now let us ask ourselves:
What do people complain about often?🤔
What tasks do i or others find frustrating or time-consuming?🤔
What do i wish existed?
For instance people hate waiting in line for food, what can I do then?🤔
2. Leverage Your Skills and Interests
Ideas that match our experience or passion are easier to start and stick with.
What am i good at (e.g., cooking, writing, repairing, organizing)?🤔
What industries do i know well?🤔
What do i enjoy doing when no one is watching or even for free?🤔
Let us say, if I am a skilled baker, a custom cupcake business could work.
3. Spot Gaps in Existing Markets
Look for:
Poor service or low-quality products
Limited competition in your area
Businesses with outdated models
4. Use Online Tools to Find Trends
Explore what’s trending or underserved using:
What’s gaining interest?🤔
Look at niche communities and their frustrations.
5. Talk to People
Ask friends, family, or local businesses:
What is something you wish you could pay someone else to do?”🤔
“What products/services do not meet your expectations?”🤔
“What is annoying about this or that in our community?”🤔
6. Test Small First
Don’t wait for perfection. Start simple and cheap.
Offer services via word of mouth or social media.
âś… Quick Checklist for a Good Idea:
Does it solve a real problem or need?🤔
Is there demand ?
Can you start small?
Do i have or can learn the skills/resources?
Who would pay for this?
