I grew up in a farming family, and from a young age, I was surrounded by the land and its rhythms. After completing university, with few formal job prospects, I returned home to farming. My father’s farm was my foundation, and though I had always loved agriculture, I had to work hard to raise capital first. I began with maize, but a drought that first year devastated my crop. The following year, while the rains returned, maize prices crashed, and I struggled again. But I didn’t give up. I discovered vegetable farming, invested in a water pump, and moved closer to the Oti River. This year, my vegetable farm flourished; it’s more than double what I achieved last year. I’ve already expanded beyond 10% of my land, and I’m still growing. With this scholarship, I can take my farm even further, sustain my family, and inspire other young farmers.
