Day one of the Chamber of Aquaculture Ghana’s Lobbying and Advocacy Training got off to a successful start, facilitated by Frans van Gerwen of PUM.

The sessions combined practical and theoretical approaches to effective lobbying within Ghana’s growing aquaculture and blue economy space.

The training focused on equipping staff with practical tools in stakeholder mapping, policy influence, teamwork, communication, and strategic lobbying to support stronger sector representation and industry-led engagement.

These sessions reflect the Chamber’s commitment to building a professional, well-resourced, and solutions-driven team capable of advancing sustainable aquaculture development and driving meaningful industry impact nationwide.

The Chamber of Aquaculture Ghana participated in a stakeholder engagement with the Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) on its transition to a digital platform for permit and license applications.

The Chamber commends the EPA for this important step towards improving efficiency, transparency, and accessibility in regulatory processes through digitalization.

The session provided valuable insights into how the new system aims to improve efficiency by reducing delays in application processing and enhancing visibility throughout the application process.

Participants were also taken through a technical demonstration on how to navigate and use the platform effectively.

The engagement also provided an opportunity for stakeholders to share feedback and recommendations aimed at strengthening the platform and ensuring its effectiveness across sectors.

The EPA further expressed its willingness to organize sector-specific trainings, workshops, and other stakeholder engagements to support users of the platform.

The Chamber remains committed to supporting its members and the broader aquaculture sector in adapting to digital systems that improve compliance, accessibility, and operational efficiency.

In a significant step toward strengthening Ghana’s aquaculture sector, the Chamber of Aquaculture Ghana facilitated a high-level courtesy visit to the Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture, Hon.Emelia Arthur, on behalf of its partner, Virbac. The Minister, together with officials from the Fisheries Commission and the Chief Director of the Ministry, warmly received the delegation, setting the tone for productive discussions on biosecurity, industry resilience, and the future of fish farming in Ghana.

Both parties engaged in productive discussions on enhancing biosecurity measures within Ghana’s aquaculture industry. Key issues raised included the need for stronger disease prevention systems, the implementation of effective health protocols, and proactive measures to safeguard the sector against outbreaks.

Particular emphasis was placed on strengthening collaboration between the Fisheries Commission and Virbac to support fish farmers through technical expertise, innovative health solutions, and improved disease management strategies. Discussions also highlighted the critical role of biosecurity in protecting fish health, increasing productivity, and ensuring the long-term sustainability of Ghana’s aquaculture industry.

The Chamber reaffirmed its commitment to advocating for strategic partnerships and policies that strengthen the aquaculture value chain while improving support systems for fish farmers across the country. Stakeholders acknowledged that closer cooperation between government institutions and private sector players remains essential to addressing industry challenges and driving growth.

The meeting concluded on a positive note, with all parties expressing their commitment to deepening partnerships and working collaboratively to advance fish health, strengthen biosecurity standards, and support the sustainable growth of Ghana’s aquaculture sector.

The Chamber of Aquaculture Ghana facilitated a formal courtesy visit to the Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture, Hon. Emelia Arthur, on behalf of its member, De Heus Animal Nutrition Ghana.

The delegation which included representatives from De Heus led by its General Manager and Commercial Manager held discussions with the Minister, alongside officials from the Fisheries Commission and the Chief Director of the Ministry. The dialogue focused on major issues within the sector, including fish feed, quality fingerlings, and the need for stronger support systems for fish farmers nationwide.

De Heus expressed its readiness to support Ghana’s aquaculture sector through the consistent supply of high-quality feed and technical advisory services on fish feed management across the aquaculture value chain, as part of efforts to enhance efficiency and strengthen industry performance. The company also encourages farmers to adopt a full production cycle and add value to their catfish production in order to maximize profits.

There was consensus on the need for stronger collaboration between government and the private sector to support the growth of aquaculture in Ghana. Key areas identified included structured farmer training, practical capacity building programmes, and improved technical support to enhance productivity and resilience across the sector.

The Chamber of Aquaculture Ghana reiterated its commitment to advocating for policies and partnerships that respond directly to the needs of fish farmers and industry actors. The Chamber emphasized that such engagements form part of its broader mandate to strengthen industry collaboration and policy dialogue within the aquaculture sector.

The meeting ended on a positive note with all parties agreeing to deepen collaboration and work towards practical solutions for a more sustainable aquaculture industry in Ghana.
