Emotions on Father’s Day
The blessing of this day is the opportunity to celebrate fatherly figures in our lives and also to be celebrated as men.
Many thoughts run through the mind in this day.
Some reflect on their roles as fathers while thinking about the fathers in their lives.
The emotions experienced are unique to each persons, especially men. Some men feel appreciated and celebrated while others feel unseen and trivialized.
Some experience anger because they believe they are not being celebrated as deserved.
Some also grieve and become angry because they did not experience the kind of fatherhood they would have preferred due to their father being absent, or just excluded. Some grieve because their fathers are deceased.
Without ignoring the difficult times and emotions experienced, I am grateful for the role of fathers in the lives of men and hopeful that we can aspire to be the kind of fathers we had hoped for.
We also celebrate those who play a fatherly role in our lives, far and near.
Happy Father’s Day to the departed m, to the living and to the aspiring fathers.
