THE MODERN-DAY AFRICAN
As days run into weeks, weeks into months, months into years, years into decades, and decades into centuries.
The belief, culture, and how we are perceived generally are gradually taking on a new dimension. This is true, taking into consideration the globalization of the world, the quest for fame and wealth, cultural dynamism, the days of technology, and social media influencers.
Today almost every modern-day African is trying every means, by hook or crook, to speak foreign, dress foreign, eat foreign, educate entirely foreign, drive foreign, etc. I therefore ask, is the Western also starving to be, in one way or the other, like us?
One may be asking, Michael, what is wrong with that? Absolutely nothing wrong. The point I am driving at is where are we heading towards? Is it to become or live entirely like the West? I'm curious about the end of it all.
Our wardrobes are stocked up with expensive foreign attire, i.e., suits of various types, lenses, jewelry, etc. How many of us equally have smocks and Kente dresses, Agbaba, iro buba, Ankara, zulu, s**a, Shamma, Djellaba etc in our wardrobes?
"When your wealth enslaves you, that is no longer wealth." Yes, are we preserving and continuing our prestigious cultures or ruining them? Our values and norms are no longer a priority in our homes and societies. Literally everything we practice today hinges on foreign cultures and beliefs. How should we describe our stance, slavery or ignorance?
