STEP-BY-STEM NCLEX REGISTRATION PROCESS FOR USA

PHASE 1

1. Obtain the Ministry of Health clearance. follow the link https://hrhd.moh.gov.gh/

2. Select the state you’ll want to register with. Below is the list of some states that are friendly to International Nurses
a. Montana
b. Texas
c. Colorado
d. Illinois
e. New York

3. Choose the credential evaluation service provider that your Board of Nursing Accepts their reports. Refer to their website for the list of states that accept their evaluation reports. Examples are:
a. Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing School https://www.cgfns.org CGFNS is highly recommended as all states accept their evaluation reports

b. Josef Silny and Associates, Inc.: https://www.jsilny.org
c. Educational Records Evaluation services: https://www.eres.com/

d. World Education Services: https://wes.org

4. Follow the registration process of the credential evaluation body, and purchase the credential evaluation service

5. After making payment, download the necessary documents for your school and NMC

6. Fill and send the necessary documents to your Nursing School and NMC respectively and pay the appropriate fees

7. When the credential evaluation is completed, the body will send the report to the Board of Nursing you selected, another copy may also be sent to you the applicant

8. Process your Board of Nursing Application
a. Submit your application on their portal
b. Meet other requirements of the board of nursing
i. Background check.
• Obtain the fingerprint card,
• Send it to the nearest police station to get your fingerprints on the card
• Send it to the agency through any currier service eg. DHL, FedEx, and UPS
ii. Write any required exams by your board of Nursing.
Examples:
• Texas board of Nursing requires you write the jurisprudence exams
• New York Board of Nursing requires that you obtain certificates in Child abuse and Infection control and barrier precautions

9. When you meet all the Board of Nursing requirements, the board will approve your application and notify you to register for the exams

PHASE 2

10. Create an account with Pearson Vue and pay the requisite fee, https://wsr.pearsonvue.com/testtaker/signin/SignInPage/NCLEXTESTING

11. Notify your Board of Nursing of your Pearson Vue Registration and wait for your Authority To Test (ATT)

12. You will receive your ATT from Pearson Vue

13. Follow the instructions on the ATT and book your exams at any convenient location. The nearest places to Ghana are Kenya, South Africa, and India.

14. Make your travel arrangements
a. Obtain the required vaccinations for the Country you’re traveling to and make sure you obtain the international vaccination card and any Regional Health Directorate near you

b. Obtain a Travel visa if necessary

c. Book your air ticket and hotel

15. Travel and write your Exams

LIST OF STATES TO CONSIDER WHEN YOU WANT TO REGISTER FOR THE NCLEX

All NCLEX exam applications are initiated by submitting a Licensure by Examination application to one of the State Boards of Nursing.

Although the NCLEX exam is nationally recognized in the U.S., each State Board has differing application requirements. Therefore, it is
important to choose a State through which you can complete your NCLEX application most quickly even if it is not the State that you will eventually be working in.

Here are the States that are currently the most user-friendly and have seen the most success for international nurses as they do not also require a US Social Security Number to sit for the exam or for your license to be issued:
