The UDS Energy Technology Centre hosted lecturers and researchers from Ghana, Burkina Faso, Sierra Leone, Italy, Portugal, and Romania for a four-day workshop in Tamale (5–8 October 2026). Together, they are developing new MSc programmes in waste management for West Africa.

The workshop is part of the EU co-funded WARM Project (Waste Reduction and Management by Implementing Circular Economy in Western Africa). The project is coordinated by Dr. Hilla Limann Technical University and brings together 10 institutions.

What it means for the Centre:
✅ A new practical, hands-on MSc curriculum in waste management
✅ New laboratory equipment for student training
✅ Knowledge sharing with partners across Africa and Europe

Participants also visited the Tamale Metropolitan Waste Department, recycling facilities, and the Gbalahi landfill site to see waste management in the metropolis first-hand.

We are pleased to share that a team from our Centre recently participated in a stakeholder engagement on the re-enactment of the Energy Commission Act 1997 (Act 541), held on 24th–25th August 2026 at Aisha Homes, Tamale.
The two-day sessions were insightful and enlightening, reflecting the Commission's commitment to keeping Ghana's energy legislation current, relevant, and fit for purpose.
A key highlight from the engagement was introducing explicit and deterrent penalties in the revised Act—a critical step to drive compliance and accountability across the energy sector.
We look forward to the Act's approval and the positive impact it will bring to energy governance in the country.

Our team participated in the Stakeholder Engagement and Consultation on the Draft Energy Performance Certification (EPC) Regulations for Buildings in Ghana, organised by GIZ in collaboration with the Energy Commission of Ghana, held in Tamale on 12 February 2026. The engagement was highly interactive and informative, reflecting the organisers’ openness to stakeholder input. We are grateful for the opportunity to contribute to this important national dialogue on energy efficiency in the built environment.

We’re pleased to share that we had a productive stakeholder meeting with the Kosmos Innovation Centre in Tamale. The discussion focused on exploring a joint call application and opportunities for resource sharing, as part of our collective effort to support the green transition.

It was truly refreshing to exchange ideas with a team that values the impact of even the smallest innovations and is committed to driving meaningful, sustainable change.
