✨ Know Your History ✨🇬🇾

Located about 14.5 km (9 miles) from the mouth of the Essequibo River, sits a quiet reminder of Guyana’s early history.

The Hog Island Windmill dates back to around 1768 and was built by the Dutch during their occupancy of the Essequibo region. It was the third windmill constructed in the area and was part of the plantation system used for sugar production on the island.

Today, even in its weathered state, it still stands a simple but powerful link to Guyana’s history.
