We’ve all had to accept things this year that we haven’t wanted. Some just slightly annoying and others really hard to deal with.

Whether it’s the little matter of remembering to scan into a restaurant, or bigger issues of not being able to see family in other locations for nearly 2 years, it’s all about accepting.

As we approach the end of 2021, it’s a time to reflect on the year, what it brought, what we learned from it and where we can go from here.

The power of words!

How are your words shaping your world? The words we use impact not only those around us, but our own well-being and ability to deal with challenges. The current challenges many of us are facing in our Covid or post Covid world can be spoken about in numerous ways. Describing them as a ‘battle’ a...

Speaking without first considering the listener, is like throwing words into the wind and hoping some of them might be caught.

If we first stop to consider what someone expects, wants, needs and is capable of processing in the moment, it’s more likely our words will not only be caught, but accepted and acted upon.

The number 1 tip for speaking well.

Listen first, then speak

Executive Coaching with a Twist - Who says we have to sit inside an office in order to benefit from coaching? Research clearly shows that walking helps increase our creativity. Getting out of the office and tapping into creativity can be a great way to brainstorm and resolve challenges.

There is nothing like a good walk to help clear your mind, boost your energy, and get you thinking of new options. Combining coaching with walking allows you to explore the same challenges you explore in an office, in the same confidential conversations.

We often decide who we can trust based on how they communicate, yet as this article points out, our brains can play tricks on us.

Knowing that you have hidden biases is the first step to getting around them.

Do you want to encourage your team to speak up and share ideas?

Try changing your 'buts' to 'ands'

Picture this.

You are in a meeting and of your team ask if they can move forward with an idea they've had.

You respond, 'Yes BUT remember we have to .......'

OR

You respond, 'Yes AND remember we have to....'

Its a subtle difference. It's only one small word. Yet it can have a big impact.

BUT shuts people down, using BUT says "Okay, I hear you, but I have something more important to say'

AND opens people up, using AND says 'I hear your, and what you are saying is valid, and I also have something to add to that'

Are you shutting your team down with BUT?

The brilliance of a speaker is not just about how well they speak.

Its about how well they listen.

Without listening, we’re not able to speak to what our audience
need and want to hear.

Without listening, we’re not able to connect to what truly matters
for the people we’re speaking to.

Without listening, our spoken words get lost, confused or misinterpreted

Listen first - then speak

How we communicate and interact is like an iceberg.

What we see on the surface is only the tip of it.

It’s what is below the surface that drives how we behave.

Its whats below the surface that helps or hinders us from showing
up the way we want to.

Changing our behaviour is about shifting what is happening below
the surface.

Have you ever had one of those customer service experiences where you feel like you're speaking to a robot?

Good communication and good service is about being real, being human - and sometimes that means stepping outside of the box and breaking the rules.

As I opened a new bank account some time ago, the young woman serving me was efficient and professional and we proceeded through the process quickly. That was until she started to explain the fees that the bank was going to charge me for opening an account. Fees to open an account? Why, I asked,…
