In early autumn, an art exhibition with the theme “Carefree Wandering” (逍遥游) opened at the Isabel Li Gallery in Sanya. Even after the Solar Term of Autumn Equinox, the sunshine in Sanya still radiates warmth and vitality. The “Carefree Wandering” exhibition brings a refreshing sense of freedom and relaxation to art enthusiasts, allowing them to slow down in the fast-paced, high-pressure society and rediscover the inner peace within.
The concept of “Carefree Wandering” originates from the classic Taoist text “Zhuangzi”, which describes Zhuangzi’s philosophical pursuit of transcending worldly constraints and achieving spiritual freedom. In Zhuangzi’s writings, “Carefree Wandering” depicts the magnificent scene of the Peng bird soaring upwards for ninety thousand miles, symbolizing the individual’s mind breaking free from all external limitations and attaining the ultimate state of unbounded freedom.
The Isabel Li Gallery, as a new art space in Sanya, has closely integrated the traditional cultural theme of “Carefree Wandering” with modern artistic enlightenment, paying tribute to Zhuangzi’s philosophy and responding to the spiritual state of contemporary people.
The “Carefree Wandering” exhibition will present 39 classic works by 6 renowned artists, using the ethereal and elegant traditional ink paintings and sculptures to depict a panorama of romance, freedom, and a return to the essence.
The inspiration for this exhibition’s theme comes from the ink painting “Carefree Wandering” by the renowned Chinese landscape painter, Mr Zhaodong Li. In his inscription, Mr. Li expresses his philosophical reflection on transcending material beauty and pursuing a higher spiritual realm - the true “Carefree Wandering” is not only about external freedom, but also about the liberation and freedom of the inner self.
The “Carefree Wandering” exhibition at the Isabel Li Gallery is a cultural inheritance of traditional art and an innovative integration with modern art, inspiring viewers to reflect on themselves, life, and the meaning of freedom. As Zhuangzi said, “Riding the wind of heaven and earth, steering the six elements, wandering endlessly” - it is hoped that in this ever-changing and rapidly developing era, everyone can freely roam the expanse of the world and find their own sense of carefree tranquility.
