What an interesting place Cartagena was to attend the Petrochemicals Global Logistics Convention (PGLC) in June!
Cartagena is a large port in Spain already used by the Punic civilization and the Romans. For the Romans, it was a strategic location and commodity hub for gold and silver. When we took a bus tour around the port to see all the tank terminals and port facilities, I was excited to hear from Roberto Bastida Caracuel from the Port of Cartagena that pieces of two Roman ships were found at the place where some infrastructure and tank storage facilities are located today. The strategic harbor location and the influence of the local mining industry at that time have led to a unique historical, architectural, and artistic heritage. This heritage is reflected in several landmarks of Cartagena, including the Roman Theatre shown in the first image of my photo collection.
The presentations were great, and the networking opportunities were fabulous during the conference.
Our Managing Director Rudi Stalmans had the pleasure to participate in two panels: the logistics & services panel with Patrick Kulsen, and Mark Mirosevic-Sorgo, and the Storage Terminals Magazine Top 100 Tank Storage Influencers panel with Esma Gulten, Paul Voogt, Patrick Kulsen, Eddy Misman, and Walter E. Wattenbergh. A real honor, thank you!
Thanks to Tony Quinn, Charles MISSEGHERS, Mercy Tabucuran Quinn, and the Petrochemicals Global Logistics Convention (PGLC) team for organizing an excellent event.
Also thank you to Roberto Bastida Caracuel and the Port of Cartagena team, Javier Blanco Ortega and Pedro Saura of MECANICAS BOLEA, S.A. for showing us how to make storage tanks, and of course Gregory Emmenis and Richard Miller of Storage Terminals Magazine, and all other participants.
