In May, a Wallem Group managed bulk carrier rescued two Filipino fishermen from their sinking boat.

The vessel, under full load, spotted the small fishing boat in distress with its crew waving for help. The crew’s professionalism and bravery was praised by the Philippine Coast Guard.

“The rescue is a clear testament to the crew’s strong seamanship, effective training, and commitment to safety at sea. It ensured that decisive action was taken swiftly when lives were at risk" said Subramanian Rajagopal, Marine & Safety Director, Wallem Group.

We are proud and honoured to be awarded The Royal Institution of Naval Architects (RINA) Maritime Diversity Award 2026 in recognition of our Women of Wallem (WoW) initiative and commitment to the International Maritime Organization’s Adopt a Ship programme.

This recognition also honours the leadership of Capt. Ceferino Jr. Leal, President of Wallem-Westminster, whose dedication has helped strengthen support for seafarers and their families while advancing diversity and inclusion across the maritime industry.

We believe creating an inclusive and supportive environment both at sea and ashore is essential to the wellbeing, safety and success of our people. Through WoW and Adopt a Ship, we remain committed to empowering communities, supporting families and encouraging greater gender diversity in maritime.

We thank RINA and bp for this recognition, and extend our gratitude to all WoW volunteers, seafarers and shore-based teams whose passion and commitment make these initiatives possible.
