Zero Export PV Application - case study with EM100 IoT Controller

Below is a 500kW PV rooftop site installed with EM100 IoT controller in a scenario where the utility grid is "black out":

In the event when utility grid is "black out", the Genset (marked with green in the illustration) automatically kicks in and starts running. This Genset is being monitored by the EM100 with the Genset run-status dry contact connected to DI3 of EM100. EM100 instantly knows that the genset is going to run and it will remotely turn off all the inverters through Modbus signal via COM2.

EM100 automatically turns back on all inverters when the Genset stops running. This is done by EM100's programmable Modbus control mapping routine.

In this setup, the operator does not need to trip the PV system manually each time, it is automatically controlled by EM100 when the inverters needs to be turned on or off.

In the rare event when EM100 loses communication with inverters, RPR 2 (illustrated in the diagram) at the Genset will send a direct dry contact signal to the EM100 so that it will automatically disconnect the PV system through C1 circuit.

All this done with a single data logger. EM100 replaces traditional data loggers with SCADA to simplify IoT infrastructure.
