With the 5th wave of COVID, many companies started to have Work From Home arrangement couple weeks ago. There are some companies which are still observing. Also some companies do not allow any employees to work in office unless there is an critical matter to handle or having a 'on-the-day' COVID test result as negative. Many companies are careful in handling the work arrangement for the team, to try to protect them.

On the other hands, we just saw the news just now. It is quite upset to see that there are some employers who decided to lay off those employees who were being set for home-quarantined.

Be the responsible and caring employers, do not lay off your employees simply because of these. I hope the below news were not true.

HK's legislative council passed the bill yesterday to extend the statutory maternity leave from 10 weeks to 14 weeks, effective from end of the year of 2020.

In the past, most employers may not having any special arrangement (such as hiring a replacement) for someone who are on maternity leave. Would that be something that add into your consideration if someone in your company got pregnant?

‘Working From Home’ is a popular work arrangement for most companies in Hong Kong, wherever they allow it. It is not only offering the flexibility for the employees, and demonstrating the care and love from the company towards their employees.

However it may not be applicable to certain industries where face-to-face interaction is required, e.g. beauty, medical and hospitality. We encourage these organisations could handle the attendance of the employees in a flexible way, and show more understanding, comfort and care, as one effective way of retaining your talents.
