Why did a 25-meter -48V power run force a data-center redesign?

Because cable distance matters much more when the current is high.

In this Magyar Telekom IPTV project:

• 9 equipment racks
• 27 kW maximum design load
• -48V DC system
• 562.5A calculated maximum current
• ~25 m measured source-to-PDF cable route

The longer-than-expected route raised a voltage-drop concern, so the power feed was reviewed before installation.

The most important lesson:

A rack plan is not complete until the real cable route is verified on site.

Same Site. Different Trust Levels.

Staff, students, guests, cameras and IoT should not all behave like the same network user. A structured design makes access easier to manage and reduces unnecessary exposure.

If you’re planning an upgrade, expansion or new deployment, review the complete network before ordering hardware.

Why did one transport layer need GE while another required 10GE, 40GE or even 200GE?

Because they were not carrying the same amount of traffic.

In the Myanmar Telenor project, traffic was progressively aggregated as it moved toward the core:

Radio Sites
→ GE-scale Microwave
→ 10GE Access
→ 40GE Aggregation
→ 200GE Planned Backbone Capacity

The key lesson is simple:

Do not size an uplink from port count alone. Size it from the traffic that will actually converge onto that path.

Future expansion interfaces were also reserved at convergence points.

Free Ports ≠ Free Power

A switch can still have empty ports while most of its PoE power is already committed. Check total PoE demand and reserve before you add the next AP, camera or phone.

If you’re planning an upgrade, expansion or new deployment, review the complete network before ordering hardware.
