Complex business problems are rarely solved by doing “more of the same” in meetings.

One emerging approach: structured play.

Methods like LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® (LSP) are being used in leadership development, strategy, and innovation workshops to unlock deeper thinking and more inclusive discussions. Instead of talking \*about\* ideas, participants build physical models that represent challenges, risks, and opportunities—then use these models to drive conversation.

Quick tips to apply play to serious problems:
1️⃣ Externalize thinking: Ask each participant to build a model of the current challenge. Making ideas tangible surfaces hidden assumptions and unspoken concerns.
2️⃣ Equalize voices: Give everyone time to explain their model. This removes hierarchy from the conversation and ensures diverse perspectives—critical for complex problem-solving.
3️⃣ Map connections: Explore how individual models relate to each other, then co-create a shared model of the desired future state. This accelerates alignment and decision-making.
