Great news! The Legislative Council passed the motion on Third Reading of the Patents (Amendment) Bill 2015 today!

The Bill introduces several important changes, including an original grant patent system, a substantive examination procedure as well as temporary measures to regulate the local patent practitioners in order to establish a sound and advanced patent system, promote innovation and strengthen Hong Kong's role as Asia's global IP trading hub.

We congratulate our President Dr. Lewis Luk, JP on being listed in the first Panel of Intellectual Property arbitrators of the Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre.

In the HKIAC news release of 15th March 2016, this new panel is described as consistsing of leading experts with immense experience in handling intellectual property cases.

The Panel currently includes 30 members who speak a total of 7 languages and practice from 12 jurisdictions. Some members are not only experienced arbitrators but also senior counsel, former judges or heads of IP professional organisations. These IP arbitrators collectively offer over 850 years of experience in IP matters including licensing issues, copyright infringements, FRAND disputes, as well as the registration of patents, trademarks and designs.

The Panel is separate from HKIAC’s regular Panel or List of Arbitrators and will be the primary source for HKIAC’s appointment of arbitrators for IP cases. The Panel also represents a convenient source from which parties may draw nominations to constitute arbitral tribunals for IP disputes.
