🎥🧬 One month has already passed since the second InnoThyroGen Summer School of Bioinformatics took place in Belgrade, Serbia!

Held from 8–12 September 2026 and hosted by the Institute of Molecular Genetics and Genetic Engineering (IMGGE), the Summer School offered five days of intensive learning, practical exercises, and knowledge exchange. 💻🔬

Throughout the week, participants explored a wide range of topics, including , , genome-wide association studies ( ), quality control, association analysis, population structure, functional annotation, and polygenic risk scores ( ).

The combination of theoretical sessions, hands-on workshops, and collaboration provided a valuable opportunity to strengthen skills, share experiences, and connect with fellow researchers. 🌍

A look back at the final day of the 2nd InnoThyroGen Summer School! 🧬

The final day brought together some of the week’s most advanced topics, from Meta-analysis and Polygenic Risk Scores to Machine Learning and Mendelian Randomization. 🧬📊

After five days of lectures, hands-on workshops, discussions and networking, we wrapped up the Summer School with a Q&A session, course feedback and closing remarks. 🎓

A huge thank you to all our participants, lecturers, organisers and everyone who contributed to making this week in Belgrade possible! 💙

🧬 A look back at Day 4 of the 2nd InnoThyroGen Summer School!

Yesterday started with an invited lecture by Maxim Freydin on the Genetics of Back Pain, followed by hands-on sessions in Association Analysis and Functional Annotation. 🎤💻

After an intensive morning of science and practical work, participants enjoyed lunch together and swapped genomic data for the streets of Belgrade with a guided city tour. 🏙️🤝

A great mix of science, hands-on learning and shared experiences!

🧬 A look back at Day 3 of the 2nd InnoThyroGen Summer School!

Yesterday’s programme combined expert insights with hands-on learning, starting with the invited lecture “Bioinformatics Consulting: Observations” by Lenart Karssen. 🎤

Participants then explored Quality Control for GWAS, putting theory into practice with PLINK 2.0, before moving on to Population Structure and Association Analysis. 💻📊

Another day of turning genomic theory into practical skills! 🧬

🧬 Day 2 of the 2nd InnoThyroGen Summer School!

Yesterday we moved deeper into the world of human genetics and GWAS, exploring statistical models and the concepts behind genome-wide association studies. 📊🧬

The afternoon turned theory into practice with hands-on R sessions focused on data manipulation and visualization, followed by an engaging discussion on Open Science, ethics and methodological pitfalls in GWAS. 💻💬

Another day full of learning, practical skills and great discussions!

🧬💻 The platform enabled our participants to gain hands-on experience with genome-wide association studies (GWAS) and work with genomic data in a practical learning environment.

🧬 Day 1 of the 2nd InnoThyroGen Summer School!

We kicked off the week in Belgrade with a warm welcome and the chance for participants to meet and connect.

The first day introduced the foundations of statistics for genetic studies, followed by hands-on Linux sessions - setting the stage for the days ahead. 💻📊

We wrapped up the day with food and networking - a great start to a week of learning, collaboration and new connections! 🤝

📊 Beyond the numbers are the voices and experiences of patients.

Over the past weeks, our partner, the Forum of Patients of Serbia, has shared findings from a survey involving 228 patients, providing valuable insight into their experiences, challenges and needs throughout the thyroid care journey.

The findings point to several important priorities: better access to healthcare, clearer information on prevention, greater patient involvement, and more personalised approaches to treatment.

A sincere thank you to everyone who participated and contributed their experience. Patient perspectives are essential in shaping healthcare that better responds to their needs. 💙

Tokom prethodnih nedelja delili smo sa vama rezultate ankete „Put pacijenta sa bolestima štitaste žlezde – iskustva, izazovi i potrebe“, sprovedene u okviru projekta InnoThyroGen.

Iza svake brojke nalazi se stvarno iskustvo pacijenta: iskustvo čekanja na pregled, traganja za informacijama, i iskustvo života sa dijagnozom.

Zato možda najvažniji rezultat ankete nije nijedan procenat, već poruka da pacijenti žele zdravstveni sistem koji ih bolje čuje, bolje informiše i pruža podršku tokom celog p**a – od dijagnoze do lečenja.

Hvala svim učesnicima ankete koji su svojim iskustvom doprineli da glas pacijenata bude deo razgovora o budućnosti zdravstvene zaštite.
