On June 14th, Mr. Bernardino Vega, ASEAN-BAC Indonesia, attended the Future of Fintech in ASEAN Forum London and shared his remarks in the session dialogue Navigating the Financial Landscape: Indonesia Emas 2045.

Co-hosted by the Indonesia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin Indonesia) and ASEAN Business Advisory Council (ASEAN-BAC), this event explores the trajectory of Indonesia's fintech industry towards 2045, in line with ASEAN's economic integration goals. It provides a platform for key stakeholders to discuss opportunities, challenges and strategic initiatives to drive the fintech sector forward.

We extend our sincere gratitude to the cooperation of Indonesia's FSA (OJK), the UK Government, Indonesia Fintech Association (AFTECH) and Equatorise, as well as the support of the Indonesian Embassy in London, UK-ASEAN Business Council, BritCham Indonesia, TechUK and TheCityUK for the successful efforts in delivering this event.

The ASEAN-BAC Indonesia team had a lunch meeting with Max Bulakovsky from OECD Global Relations and Cooperation Directorate for the South Asia and Southeast Asia region, to explore potential future cooperation between Indonesia and the OECD.

In preparation for Indonesia's accession to the OECD, ASEAN-BAC Indonesia aims to facilitate knowledge exchange and policy dialogue with the OECD and BIAC to raise awareness among the Indonesian business community to play a proactive role in this progress. ASEAN-BAC Indonesia has expressed its full support and aims to work closely with the OECD Headquarters in Paris for this initiative.

In addition, ASEAN-BAC Indonesia has also been very active in the OECD Southeast Asia Regional Programme (SEARP) to further promote OECD best practices in the region.

Congratulations to Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA) for the triumphant inauguration of the ERIA Digital Innovation and Sustainable Economy Center (E-DISC) on 26 March 2024. This momentous event was witnessed by Bernardino Vega, ASEAN-BAC Indonesia, heralding a new chapter of innovation and robust digital development in the region.

Located in Jakarta, Indonesia, E-DISC is committed to fostering a robust digital transformation in ASEAN and East Asia. It will serve as a platform to foster collaboration, share knowledge, and inspire transformative efforts aimed to leverage digital technology for sustainable economic growth and social development. ASEAN-BAC Indonesia will work closely with ERIA to support this shared vision.

ASEAN-BAC Indonesia expresses its sincere appreciation to the ASEAN Center for Biodiversity for hosting a pivotal workshop on the Institutional Strengthening of the Biodiversity Sector in ASEAN, held in Manila, Philippines, on March 19th to 20th, 2024.

These activities are critical component of the ASEAN Business and Biodiversity Initiative and represent the continuation of our Memorandum of Understanding with them. With the active participation of the ASEAN Alliance on Carbon Market (AACM), these events mark a significant step forward in fostering sustainable partnerships and initiatives for biodiversity conservation in the ASEAN region.

On 9th March 2024, ASEAN-BAC Indonesia, Mr. Bernardino Vega, together with other ASEAN-BAC delegates attend the Consultations with the ASEAN Economic Ministers in Luang Prabang, Lao PDR.

The consultation highlights the priority of ASEAN-BAC 2024 and to strengthen efficient Public-Private Partnership (PPP) for deeper cooperation in the ASEAN. The consultation also promote AACM (ASEAN Alliance on Carbon Markets) as one of the initiatives supported by the leaders this year.

This afternoon, the Chair of ASEAN-BAC 2024, Mr. Oudet Souvannavong, and ASEAN-BAC Indonesia Council member, Mr. Bernardino Vega had an interface meeting with the H.E. Malaithong Kommasith, Chair of AEM, the Minister of Industry and Commerce of Laos.

The meeting was held during the 30th ASEAN Economic Minister's Retreat at Luang Prabang, Lao PDR, and attended by other ASEAN-BAC delegates. The meeting focuses on introducing Lao's ASEAN-BAC chairmanship priority agenda, promoting policy alignment with the government, as well as seeking support for ABIS (ASEAN Business & Investment Summit) 2024.

The delegation of Indonesia Chamber of Commerce and Industry, together with ASEAN-BAC Indonesia had a special opportunity to engage with H.E. Hun Manet, the Prime Minister of Cambodia, during the 2024 ASEAN-Australia Special Summit.

ASEAN-BAC Indonesia is in full support to advance the ASEAN-Australia Dialogue Relations, focusing on enhancement of trade, investment, electric vehicle (EV), education, and people-to-people relationship.

Recently, ASEAN-BAC Indonesia held the kickoff roundtable discussion of ASEAN Business Entity (ABE) Hub. As a follow up of our previous ASEAN-BAC Indonesia Chairmanship’s legacy project. The ABE Hub will serve as a platform to promote intra-ASEAN investments and to bridge MSMEs in our region to the regional investment landscape.

Recently, Our Alternate Chair, Mr. Bernardino Vega and our Legacy lead for ASEAN Net Zero Hub and Carbon Center of Excellence, Mr. Dharsono Hartono held the first roundtable meeting of the ASEAN Alliance on Carbon Market (AACM).

Exploring the immense potential of the carbon market in Southeast Asia and discussing the shaping of policies for a clearer, sustainable future.

Recently in Kuala Lumpur, during our trip for the 100th ASEAN-BAC Council Meeting, our Alternate Chair, Mr. Bernardino Vega alongside with current Chair of ASEAN-BAC Lao PDR, Mr. Oudet Souvannavong and ASEAN BAC Members held a meeting with the ABAC ASEAN Caucus to coordinate and align plans.

As a follow up of the recent inauguration of the ABAC ASEAN Caucus in San Francisco, both councils have agreed as Digital Transformation and Sustainable Development as their main priority.

ASEAN-BAC Indonesia participated at the 99th ASEAN-BAC meeting, the first council gathering under Lao PDR’s ASEAN-BAC 2024 Chairmanship. We are excited to engage with Joint Business Council, strengthening economic ties, and fostering collaboration among ASEAN member states.
