Today is day and what better day to celebrate and appreciate our hospitality in those difficult times.

Who are your and what are their powers?

Superman has his cape! Black Panther has his Vibranium! Wonder Woman has her Lasso of Truth! Thor has his hammer! These superheroes capture our imaginations and our hearts with their adventures and special gifts but what about the rest of us?

Due to the circumstances we now have a trade mark too - The Mask - Hospitality's NEW Superpower!

Consider that 'the Mask' is no longer a barricade to human interaction but an opportunity, a special gift, to capture guest hearts and imaginations, to become a guest experience superhero despite the pandemic!

We firefight on a daily basis, negotiate at length, always there to please, juggle requests and opportunities and best of all work as a .

As Batman once said, "It's not who I am underneath, but what I do that defines me." Employees have a choice to 'do' for guests and channel their creativity, sincerity, clarity, energy, and engagement by seeing the mask as limitless instead of limiting.

This is me trying to be a superhero at the moment.....

Today is in support of the . Almost everybody knows someone effected by cancer which is a sad reality.

Today is one of the Irish Cancer Society's biggest fundraiser, aiming to raise millions of euro to support cancer patients and their loved ones by providing free advice and support, as well as by funding life-saving cancer research.

Normally the streets would be full of volunteers selling bunches of Daffodils and pins and glowing yellow. This is the second year this main fundraiser event is limited. Before school run the kids & I bought a bunch in the shops but made a donation online instead. The bunch of Daffodils will brighten up my home office for the day.

Although there are numerous new approaches now, its a good one to take a step back and reflect and make a for the upcoming month. After all our "normal cheese" has been moved.

An Garda Síochána have stepped up to the Swiss police . Gardaí across Ireland answered the call to give the public we serve a lift in these challenging times.

They did the dance showcasing the beauty this country has to offer! Who wouldn't want to dream of booking their next vacation in ? Did you spot the mini appearance of the routine?

As I just watched online New Zealand welcoming 2021 with an fantastic firework the countdown has started here as well to see what 2021 will bring. Ireland and most of the UK start it in joining other countries with a strict lockdown Nr3 but there is hope.

2020 certainly was a year like no other. It had challenging, devastating but also positive moments both personal and professionally.

My main positive experience was family time. The first time since I had my kids I spend 24/7 for weeks with them. I still remember trying to get them to do PE with whilst dealing with mass cancellations of hotel reservations with sprinkles of nature facts from as home schooling went so well... and counting down to when was on. This was topped off with the lockdown with whilst redoing a whole new and dealing with the various lockdown dates.

So maybe let's see if below's old would work and bring some or whatever that might look like back into peoples life and helps rebuild our most loved and decimated hospitality industry.

Happy Saint Nicolas Day/ Nikolaus to my family, friends and colleagues.
If you celebrate it as “little Christmas” like in Germany or main Christmas like in the Netherlands – make it extra special this year.
In previous years if you worked directly with me you would have found a little parcel with German treats on your desk today. Unfortunately that wasn’t possible this year.
If you are wondering what I am on about - in some countries last night was the only day today that you ever get the kids to polish their shoes (at least my dad made me polish my own shoes that day ;) I love sharing my home traditions with my kids who take it as an opportunity for an extra day of gifts….
The tradition of Saint Nicholas' Day, on 6 December is a festival for children (big & small) in many countries in Europe related to surviving legends of Saint Nicholas, and particularly his reputation as a bringer of gifts.
Many children & adults put a polished boot called Nikolaus-Stiefel (Nikolaus boot) outside the front door on the night of 5 December. Dirty boots are unacceptable. Children & adults polish their boots to show they’ve been good. They usually place just one boot outside their door so they don’t appear too greedy, though.
According to the legend, Nikolaus comes in the middle of the night on a donkey or a horse and leaves little treats – like coins, chocolate, oranges and toys - for good children (big & small). At the same time he checks up on the children to see if they were good, polite and helpful the last year. If they were not, they will have a tree branch (Rute) in their boots instead.

Below are my kids boots so they must have done ok this year (even the cat got a lend of a boot to get treats)!
