Hey everyone! I’m Amy, I’m 20 and from Ballinrobe. I’m currently halfway through studying Forensic Investigation and Analysis in Sligo.
I’ve always had a huge interest in forensic science (you can blame my parents for all the crime shows we watched growing up). I love how forensic science combines unique scientific techniques with the law to help uncover the truth behind investigations, and it’s something I’ve become even more passionate about since starting college.
When I’m not in college, you’ll usually find me at one of the beaches in Sligo, or whatever beach I can find near home. Since starting college, I’ve gotten really into surfing both with the college and with my friends. What started off as trying something new quickly became one of my favourite hobbies. I love the mix of challenge and fun that comes with it, and there’s nothing better than heading to the beach after a stressful day in college. Earlier this year we attended the Inter-Varsity Surf Competition in Clare. We definitely didn’t bring home any medals, but the laughs, road trip memories and meeting new people made it such a great experience. Surfing has really pushed me out of my comfort zone and introduced me to some amazing friends along the way.
When I’m not studying or at the beach, you’ll find me serving teas and pastries in Mrs Teas in Cong. I joined the team two years ago and I’ve genuinely loved every minute of it. The weekends are always my favourite because all the part-timers come together and there’s always plenty of gossip and laughs while somehow still getting all the work done. Working in Mrs Teas has really brought me out of my shell and helped build my confidence. I’ve met people from all over the world working here and I love getting to chat with customers and hear their stories especially during the busy summer months when Cong is full of tourists.
I’d like to thank Insaf and everyone involved in Sli Nua Careers for the sponsorship and continued support throughout this amazing opportunity. If you had asked me last year to do this, I would have been far too nervous, but this year I’ve been pushing myself to try new things and make the most of every opportunity.
I’m really looking forward to meeting all the amazing girls taking part.
