How’s your Monday going so far?

Monday is nearly over.
1st day of a new week over.
Second week of the second quarter of 2025 – already flying by.

Are you thinking?

The school mid-term is here - already!
I should spend more time with my family.
The evenings are brighter – I should really get out for a walk.

I’ve spent the day procrastinating – I need someone to hold me accountable.
I got bogged down in emails – I wish I had someone to sort them out for me.
My mind’s swirling with new ideas - when will I get time to develop them?
I’m not sure what’s in my calendar for the week ahead.

I think the deadline for my accountant is next week?
I still haven’t replied to that customer who asked for a proposal.
I'm exhausted from it all.

Why do I put a time limit on everything I do, whether I love it or hate it?

When I’m doing what I love, I get carried away. I can sit for hours engrossed in learning a new topic, trying new technology, or writing. I love my work and find great joy and creativity in it. The timer helps me to stop and move on to the next thing on the list or switch to mom or wife mode.

For tasks I dread, the timer keeps me going. It motivates me to stick with it and finish the task. When I feel like stopping but the timer hasn’t gone off yet, I keep going.

What I’ve found is that setting limits on my time helps me to:

Understand how much I can achieve in the allotted time, improving my planning.

Push myself to complete tasks I don’t enjoy and feel accomplished.

Create harmony in my day, preventing burnout, exhaustion, and distractions.

Efficiently cross off items on my task list. Always a feel-good factor! 😂

Establish boundaries around my working hours, time, and energy.

The Power of Connection

As solo business owners, it’s easy to feel like it’s us against the world.

We wear all the hats, juggle all the tasks, and keep the wheels turning.

I get it—I’ve been there.

Taking the leap: How I balance certainty and action

By nature, I am not a spontaneous risk-taker. I prefer to carefully consider my options, gather all the necessary information, and seek advice when needed. This process allows me to approach challenges with a balanced perspective.

Sometimes, the advice I seek comes from a trusted business mentor—someone who has already paved the way, understands how I think, and knows how I work.

Research has shown that we can rarely be more than 80 percent certain of any decision. It’s in that remaining 20 percent where action and faith come into play. You might regret it if you reach 80 percent certainty and don’t take the leap.

In fact, studies by Cornell University psychologists reveal that time is a significant factor in our regrets. In the short term, we tend to regret actions more frequently, with action regrets making up 53 percent and inaction regrets at 47 percent.

However, when we reflect on our lives as a whole, the scale tips dramatically: 84 percent of our long-term regrets stem from inaction, compared to just 16 percent from actions we took.

So, as you think about making changes in your business or life, ask yourself:

Have you done the research and gathered all the information you need?

Are you seeking guidance from mentors or advisors who truly understand you?

What’s holding you back from taking that next step?

Are you more afraid of making a mistake, or of missing out on a potential opportunity?

How will you feel five or ten years from now if you let this moment pass by?

Taking calculated risks is not about being reckless; it’s about trusting that 80 percent certainty is enough to move forward.

Don’t let the fear of the unknown keep you from pursuing the success you deserve.
