Applications are now open for the Domestic Violence Victims Travel Supplement, the flat-payment scheme to help people leaving abusive relationships meet the cost of getting to safety.

The Department of Social Protection has updated its website and the application form is available to download now.

A referral from a Cuan-funded service provider or An Garda Síochána can be used to support an application. The form will also shortly be available through the Department’s e-forms portal for anyone who would prefer a paper copy posted out.

This payment is a meaningful, practical step to securing independence for those bound financially to their abuser.

Most people don’t realise that driving instructors in Ireland are regularly re-tested to make sure we’re still teaching to the highest standard.

Every two years we must complete what’s called a “Check Test” with the RSA. This involves an examiner assessing a live driving lesson, checking everything from:

✅ Teaching ability
✅ Communication skills
✅ Safety awareness
✅ Lesson structure
✅ Observation and feedback
✅ Vehicle control and professionalism

Only after passing can we continue teaching learner drivers professionally.

Delighted to say I passed mine yesterday with flying colours! 🎉🚗💨

It’s a great feeling knowing that the standards, techniques and habits I’m teaching learners every day continue to meet RSA requirements and modern driving standards.

A huge thank you to all my learners for keeping me on my toes every day too 😅👏

Now… back to helping more people pass safely and confidently across Inishowen and beyond! 🚘☘️
