Some footage of our trip to Kiernan Milling earlier this week to rescue a swarm of bees from a stack of pallets in their yard! 🐝 🐝

While the swarm had settled in nicely during the warm weather and built some lovely frames, they were very exposed and wouldn’t have survived the winter out here.

They’re safely wrapped up in a nuc to keep preparing for winter now! 🥶

Another great success for National Heritage Week at The Bee Barn last weekend!

A massive thank you to Una from Carraig Gardens Colette Kearney and all the locals who came out for the threshing as well as Cavan County Council for helping us make it happen!

We also had a great turn out for our Tiny Treasures on Tuesday where the children spent the morning learning all about pollinators and micro organisms in our soil! Sally-Ann & Caroline were a big hit!

For all who have been inquiring, we will be posting some wax and cosmetics workshops soon for September once all of the honey has been spun and dealt with! 🍯 🐝 🐝

Delighted to be invited to do a workshop on beeswax and candlemaking at the recent FIBKA Summer Conference in Tullamore!

Having spent years competing at these shows (and winning a few prizes along the way!) it’s nice to pass on information to new beekeepers. We had people from all over Ireland and it was very enjoyable meeting fellow beekeepers.
We will run some beeswax workshops in candlemaking and cosmetics here at the Bee Barn this September when the honey harvesting is wrapped up - keep an eye on our page for info and join us this Saturday for our annual National Heritage Week Open Day!

AUG 15 | We are running our popular ‘Is Beekeeping For Me?’ Beginners Workshop (Free Signup REQ.)
With our annual Open Day to follow: a fun filled afternoon of traditional arts and crafts suitable for all the family!

On Tues AUG 18 we are also running a special Children’s Workshop: ‘Ireland’s Tiny Treasures’ in partnership with Cavan County Council Sally-Ann & Caroline and MicroBuddiez, where children will get a hands on look at how important our native pollinators are in a fun and engaging setting!

What a fantastic evening we had yesterday hosting @ Cavan Beekeepers . The weather was super @ Cavan soft ice cream refreshed us with lovely 99s . And thanks to Chris from for coming with our beekeeping supplies . And the lovely spot prizes . And last but not least thanks to Ealma from for entertaining us and bringing a beautiful selection of pollinator friendly plants . Thank you everyone for a lovely evening .
