Important Update on Naturalisation Application Judgments
Case References: 2025 493 JR & 2024 1293 JR

Dear Clients and Applicants,

We have received an important update from the High Court regarding the pending judgments on naturalisation applications.

Judge Bradley has advised that he will now deliver judgment in these matters electronically on 27th January 2026.

We understand this news is deeply frustrating. Our team actively challenged the delay by making urgent applications at the High Court.

We were hopeful, based on earlier indications, that decisions would be delivered in the last week of November 2025, and then in the first week of December 2025. After the first week passed on 8th December, we received an email from the Registrar of the High Court stating that the decision was expected on 16 January 2026. We then received another email advising that judgment would be delivered on 23 January 2026. Today, we have been notified by email that the expected date is now 27 January 2026.

This repeated adjournment is undoubtedly disappointing for everyone waiting.

Please know that we share in your frustration and have advocated vigorously on your behalf at every stage. We maintain a firm belief in our legal system and sincerely hope that there will be no further adjournments beyond this new date.

We will continue to monitor the situation closely and will provide you with any further updates as soon as they are available. Thank you for your continued patience.

A post from our sister law firm Abbott Solicitors "We are pleased to update on a significant step forward in our client's case challenging the prolonged delay in their application for a Certificate of Naturalisation.
A hearing was concluded today in the High Court. The case addresses the failure to make a decision on our client's application within a reasonable timeframe.
The Court has now set the next step: The Department of Justice is to deliver its submissions tomorrow.
This is a positive development in our ongoing efforts to secure a resolution for our client. We will continue to press for the fair and timely processing of their application, as required by law.
We will provide further updates as the case progresses.

We are pleased to share that our client from Pakistan has been granted an Irish D Visa to join her spouse in Ireland!

The sponsor was granted permission to remain under the Regularisation Scheme in October 2022, and the visa application was lodged in February 2024.

With clear legal strategy and careful preparation, our client’s right to family reunification has been recognised.

We are pleased to share another success story of our partners firms!
"Another Judicial Review Victory!
We are delighted to share another successful outcome for our client!

After facing over two years of unexplained delay and repeated responses citing “background checks pending,” our client turned to us for help. He had applied for a Certificate of Naturalisation in 2022 based on five years' lawful residence in Ireland.

Upon instruction, we initiated Judicial Review proceedings — and we are pleased to confirm that an approval decision was issued yesterday!

This result reinforces the importance of legal action where delays become unreasonable or unjustified.

Naturalisation Success – Despite Prolonged Delays
We are pleased to confirm that our client's application for a Certificate of Naturalisation was approved on 13 June 2025.
The application journey has been long and complex:
Submitted: 25 March 2022
Acknowledged by Department: 1 August 2022
Vetting Initiated: 30 August 2023
Vetting Completed: 13 September 2023
Despite repeated assurances by the Department that a decision would issue within 12 weeks of the final background checks, no determination was made. As a result:
Pre-litigation letters were issued on:
7 February 2024
15 May 2024
10 September 2024
The Department repeatedly stated that decisions would issue within 12 weeks of final vetting, yet redefined the commencement of the 12-week period as the date of receipt of the final checks — a position our client found wholly unsatisfactory.
Judicial Review proceedings were issued on 27 November 2024.
Leave was granted on 13 December 2024, with return date set for 22 January 2025.
On request by the Department’s solicitor, the matter was adjourned to 26 February 2025, during which a settlement was reached — a decision would issue within 12 weeks.
Proceedings were struck out by consent.
Surprisingly, a new Garda Vetting request was issued on 26 May 2025, yet the application was approved on 13 June 2025, even before the completed vetting disclosure was submitted (which only occurred today, 16 June 2025).
This case underscores the persistence required to secure lawful entitlements and the importance of holding public bodies accountable to their statutory obligations.

Another success story of our sister law firm:
"High Court Success – Judicial Review Proceedings on Delayed Naturalisation Applications
Abbott Legal Group successfully represented clients in four separate Judicial Review proceedings before the High Court, each concerning inordinate and unjustified delays in the processing of applications for Certificates of Naturalisation.
All four matters were listed for hearing before the High Court today. We are pleased to confirm the following outcome:
✅ In two cases, the State has offered to settle the proceedings following receipt of our legal representations.
These developments reaffirm our firm’s commitment to holding the State accountable where applicants experience prolonged administrative delay absent lawful justification.
Our team of experienced solicitors and counsel, specialising in public and immigration law, remains dedicated to securing timely and effective remedies for our clients under the supervision of Mr Mujeeb Awan.
📩 If your naturalisation application has been unreasonably delayed, we invite you to contact us for a consultation on potential judicial review proceedings before the High Court.

Success Story | Irish D-Visa Approvals from Pakistan 🇮🇪🇵🇰

We are delighted to announce that five family members of our client have today been granted Irish D-Visas from Pakistan!

The applications were submitted via VFS Islamabad on 13/12/2023, and despite prolonged delays, our expert legal team took swift and decisive action. A Judicial Review was prepared in the High Court of Ireland, and a formal 7-day pre-action notice was served last week. Today, we are pleased to confirm that the visas have been approved.

Approved Visa Application Numbers:
• 62963262
• 62964542
• 62964782
• 62964892
• 62965012

This case was particularly complex, as the sponsor’s spouse was only 16 years old at the time of marriage. However, under the direct supervision of Mr. Mujeebur Awan, the cover letter was crafted with legal precision to address and overcome this issue, ultimately resulting in success.

We are pleased to share another positive outcome received early in the morning from Irish Embassy India, following the issuance of a 7-day pre-action notice to the Visa Officer, notifying our intent to initiate Judicial Review proceedings due to prolonged inaction—our clients had been awaiting a decision since May 2024.

We are delighted to confirm that the Irish Embassy in India has now approved visa applications for:

The spouse and
Two dependent children (one born in March 2007)

These approvals were granted under the D-Visa (Join Family) category as dependents of a care worker residing in Ireland.

The sponsor has been living and working in the State since August 2022 on a Stamp 1 Work Permit as a frontline care worker.

This result reflects both our commitment to legal advocacy and the importance of family reunification under Irish immigration law.

Leave granted by the High Court: 17 February 2025
Settlement offered: Just yesterday – ahead of today’s scheduled hearing!

This result once again reflects our commitment to defending the rights of our clients and holding decision-making authorities accountable for timely and fair processing.
