Three clients asked me the same question this week.

All three had built a website with AI. Quickly, cheaply, and honestly — they looked fine. The question was identical every time: how do I get off the subscription?

That's the part that isn't obvious on day one. The build takes an afternoon. The bill renews every month for as long as the site stays up. And when someone on the team needs to change a price or add a page, they can't — they have to go back to the chat that built it.

You can usually export the code. But exported code still needs somewhere to live and someone who understands it. That isn't a solved problem, it's a moved one.

None of this means building that way was a mistake. It got them online in a week instead of a quarter. It just means the prototype was the easy part, and nobody sold them the second half.
