Summer is finally here!🌞

With wedding season in full swing, what better ancient artefact to look at than this lebes gamikos from Ancient Greece?

It is a very distinctive vessel which is believed to have been a gift for the bride and perhaps used to pour water for the bride’s bath on her wedding day.

Dating to the 4th century BC, the vase is decorated in the red-figure style. On either side, we can see different scenes. On one side, we can see a woman sitting on a rock; on one hand she is balancing a shallow dish. Her wrists are adorned with bracelets and she wears a necklace.

On the opposite side is the winged figure of Eros, the Greek god of love. He is in a similar pose to the woman and holds a mirror in his right hand.

Why this museum in Malta is one you shouldn't miss...

If you have even the slightest interest in archaeology, the National Museum of Archaeology in Valletta, Malta's capital, is one you must visit!

The museum building was originally used for members of the Order of St. John in the 16th century. It now contains a magnificent archaeological collection with objects and structural remains ranging from Neolithic times, to the Bronze Age, to the Phoenicians.

One of the highlights is this exquisite figurine known as the "Sleeping Lady" dating to the Neolithic period (3600-2400BC).

Looking for new travel destinations this year?

Then why not head to the fascinating site of Paestum?

Located approximately an hour and a half south of the Amalfi coast in Italy, Paestum is a spectacular archaeological site.

Originally founded as a Greek colony in the 7th century BC, the site survived until the Middle Ages, experiencing several changes in that time. It was not until 273 BC that the site got its name Paestum, when it became a Roman colony.

The surviving structures are extremely impressive. Highlights include Greek temples and a Roman amphitheatre.
