This World Biodiversity Day🌍, we wanted to highlight the importance of protecting and supporting local biodiversity through small, practical actions that can make a real difference over time.
As part of this, we recently installed swift boxes at iSupply using PVC cut-offs from jobs completed for various clients, giving surplus material a second life while helping create potential nesting spaces for swifts, a species currently on the Red conservation list in Ireland.
According to BirdWatch Ireland, breeding swift populations declined by 69% between 1998 and 2023.
Swifts are migratory birds, travelling to Africa for the winter months before returning to Ireland between May and August to breed. By installing these boxes, we hope to help provide safe nesting spaces and give these birds a better chance while supporting wildlife closer to home.
While our initiatives such as SigNature already support wider environmental and biodiversity projects, we were pleased to take a step that helps support biodiversity closer to home here in Ireland. This is our first action taken to benefit our local biodiversity sphere and hopefully the first of many, while also contributing towards SDG 15, Life on Land, through supporting biodiversity and helping protect endangered species.
A special thank you to Swift Conservation Ireland, for their advice, guidance and support in helping bring this project to life.
