There is always a great deal of satisfaction when words like exceptional, fun, 'can't wait until next year' and spectacular are used in relation to an event. It means it's a job well done for the client and for the guests.

Every event is special but let me tell you about the Irish Franchise Awards which took place on Friday night in the Radisson Blu Royal in Dublin - an event with multiple standing ovations and moving, well-deserved recognitions for the very hard-working members of the franchise community.

- 25th year of Awards
- First time taking place since 2019
- Largest gathering of the Irish franchise business community in Ireland with ~30 franchises represented
- Record number of attendees
- 16 Awards including Overall Franchise of the Year to Camile Thai, Lifetime Honorary Membership to John Green of Chem-Dry and Outstanding Contribution to Franchising to David Killeen.
- Raised over €5,000 for Make-A-Wish Ireland!!!!
And much more...

MC'd by Mr. Jonathan Healy, it was an evening filled with people reconnecting in person and a lot of laughter and fun. The atmosphere was palpable from the first moment.

Congratulations to all the Winners and thank you to all the Sponsors who supported making the event what it was.

Great news to share with you today! I'm officially heading back to college to study Innovation & Enterprise Development. My whole career has been about pushing the boundaries of what is possible, finding creative ways forward despite obstacles, growing constantly, and taking someone's crazy, seemingly impossible idea from theory to fruition. I live every day in that beautiful, potential-filled space where imagination meets reality and I thrive in it. 2022 will take this work to a new level and this course is the next major step in that plan. Wish me luck! πŸ€

2021. Won't lie, I'm so very done with you. You were great. You were terrible. And everything in between. That's life but crikey, time for something different!

Time to welcome the year 2022 and see what it's made of. I've already got a few plans and ideas... Nothing crazy, but enough to make things interesting and get me started. How about you?

Each year on New Year's Eve I write a letter to myself. The wins, the moments from the past year and the wants and wishes for the year ahead. It's amazing what can change in a year. It's amazing what we forget in a year. Tonight I'll read last year's letter and write a new one to open on 31.12.22. So simple but so good.

Do you have a New Year's tradition or habit?

Happy New Year 😊

If you've been reading my daily 'elephant' posts, you may have deduced that these things are not complicated concepts. Some might consider them obvious. You've perhaps considered them before or agreed with them or avoided them. Or indeed you may have recognised something of yourself in them.

Great! So, what have you done about it?

Sorry, but that is the crux of today's elephant, the thing that sometimes we need to call out and face in order to move forward with our business and everything else.

Knowing and doing are two completely different things. Bob Proctor, renowned personal development and self-help author, calls it the 'knowing-doing gap'.

We only get the true value from something when we apply what we know and learn. And simple concepts like these elephants does not mean unimportant.

Often the things that have the greatest impact on our performance are very simple. They can be challenging to fully put into action but therein lies the genius.

For one reason or another many businesses find themselves skipping or skimming over the basics of who they are, what they do, who they do it for and how they do it.

Challenge that in your business. Do you have all your key fundamentals such as target audience, business model, value ladder, core message, goals, value proposition and market differentiation totally clear?

Knowing something is very different than doing or applying that and seeing the results from it. And its pure gold!

Have a great weekend.

Today's challenge to our way of thinking for our business success (aka calling out the elephants in the room) is let it go.

We have a wonderful tendency to hold on to something - be it an idea, a habit, a way of thinking, a way of doing, a client that drains us, a proposal that makes us cringe or anything else - out of mis-guided loyalty or something else that makes us feel like we will be the heel of the century if we do anything anything else. That we will be giving up instead of trading in for something else more valuable.

You've heard of 'sacred cows' or 'darlings' perhaps? The untouchable ideas that you love and want to find a way to make happen no matter what it costs. And yet they just don't fit in to the bigger whole anymore or are not in alignment with your business strategy. They can often compromise it. In those cases it may be let it go, for now. Perhaps their time will come another day. I highly recommended an ideas notebook for this!

Decluttering our houses, our desktops, our offices - its all about letting go that will does not serve us anymore. Things that annoy or distract us from being the best and favourite version of ourselves. That which will not push us and our business forward, and which is only holding us back or clouding our vision for the future.

Do you know something that you are holding on to in your business that just isn't working? Perhaps its time to think about that some more...

Sometimes we need time to absorb and process what is happening to us. Our emotions do not obey logic, much as that can be total pain. It's healthy to explore and own them.

What I am speaking of for Elephant No. 2 is something different to that. It's the behaviour of kidding yourself that something is not how it actually is.

It could be how something is working, when it's not.
It could be your finances.
It could be your satisfaction with your business.
It could be something to do with a client.
It could be a problem that you don't want to voice.
It's head-in-the-sand, total ostrich-style behaviour that stops you moving forward in a productive way.

Familiar?

I say let's be very real about the situation. Call it out. Say it out loud - in a safe space if that is what is needed. Say what you think. What you fear. What you feel. What you don't want. What you want.

Yes that might make you feel afraid, but, to quote 'We Own A Zoo' - 20 seconds of bravery is all you need.

Our businesses are far more likely to be what we need them to be if we are realistic and deal honestly and openly with reality. And we are far more likely to feel less alone and less overwhelmed too.
